From Dunsborough we took a scenic drive a short distance to the lighthouse. The lighthouse is sited on a promontary overlooking the ocean. We arrived after 5pm and the lighthouse was closed. There was a notice board with a map showing the walking trails around the lighthouse. We followed a path that overlooked the coastline and wound around the promontary. There were wild plants and flowers all along the trail. A couple of kangaroos also hopped across our path. The walk was exhilarating and the view of the coastline and ocean breathtaking. We stopped for awhile trying to spot the whales. The highlight of our visit was the sun as it set behind the lighthouse. Picture perfect moment! What a way to end the day.

I wouldn't agree with the review 'a waste of time and money'. My two young sons love lighthouses so for them it was great. It is only little lighthouse but the tallest as it is on a hill already. We did the first tour and it was only us on the tour then as we came out there was a big group waiting to go up. They have a good little set up there with a mini museum, a cafe, a small shop, toilets and walks leading round the lighthouse on the headland. We went when the whales were migrating so we could see the whales out at sea as we were walking. Close by is sugarloaf rock which is also nice to visit. We saw a pod of at least 20 dolphins playing in the waves there, it was amazing and quite a crowd gathered to watch. If you are going to visit the lighthouse then make sure you visit all the other lovely sites on cape naturaliste whilst there (eagle bay, bunker bay, sugar loaf rock etc).

Dunsborough and Cape Naturaliste are Beautiful! Great scenery, beaches and views. However, there is no need to pay the $4 to visit the base of the lighthouse or $12 to go inside. The lighthouse is hundreds of metres away from the shore and you are fenced in like chickens. Nothing to see. Instead of going to the lighthouse stop at Bunker Bay for a walk around, spot whales from the amazing coastline cliffs and beaches.
