We have stayed at Exmouth a Escape previously and it was quite lovely the first time (which was a couple of years ago) We rolled into Exmouth at lunch time and after checking out our options decided to stay here based on our previous positive experience. We were very grateful to get a room without a booking having made a last minute decision to visit Exmouth and the rate was $250 per night, $50 less than the advertised rate which was a bonus.
The gentleman who was in the office is a nice man but perhaps not the best choice for reception as he our welcome wasn't as warm as it could have been. Whalers Restaurant has just relocated to the resort from the centre of town and this is a MASSIVE plus, Whalers is one of the best eateries in town and we were stoked to be able to walk across the car park for dinner.
Unfortunately our villa wasn't quite how we remembered it. The kitchen was a little grubby, sadly the dishes in the cupboard looked like they'd not really been cleaned and the glass in the fridge has a bit of a mouth smudge on it so I washed everything before using it. I don't expect to have to do that at any accommodation and this left me a little deflated. The furniture in the lounge area is showing some age and wear and the cushions on the couch REALLY needed a wash or something, too many different heads have laid on them I think.
Probably the thing that left me most gutted was when I went into the bedroom and there was a faint yellow stain on the doona cover right in the middle of the bed. I just started thinking about how that stain got there as it was obviously a 'human' stain. I did attend reception and let the gentleman who checked us in know about it. I asked if we could have another doona cover as I was happy to change it myself and he went to get us another one and then suggested I use the doona cover in the spare room, unfortunately in my mind I had started doubting the cleanliness of all of the linen as soon as I laid eyes on the stain on the doona cover and so I just stripped our doona and used our own bedding. He did assure me that he was 'sure the bedding was all new and clean' however a bodily fluid stain front and centre on a doona cover makes me think otherwise.
This IS a lovely property, the pool area is wonderful, it's a good distance out of town, the restaurant is super and the villas have great aircon and good facilities. I just hope that the issue of the lack of cleanliness is addressed as Exmouth needs good accommodation facilities like this one and for me cleanliness is an absolute priority.
