We had a wonderful time at the south western wine region of Australia. This resort has a vineyard attached and their wine is exceptional. We had a suite in the main lodge that has a bed room, living room and two full bathrooms; very large just for two people. The chef is exceptional, the tasting menu at dinner is a different creation each night. The wine region is a nice area to tour and do tastings. Fabulous!

Room Tip: All rooms are good.

Cape lodge was by far the best hotel we stayed in during our 3 weeks in Australia. The reception staff were very helpful and arranged a wine tasting trip for us and made suggestions of other places to visit in the area.
The restaurant was fantastic, I am a vegetarian and the first night I arrived there was nothing on the menu I could eat. The staff talked with the chef and within 15 mins and new menu was presented with 4 different choices for the starters and main course. The next night we ate there we did not have to remind them and the vegetarian menu was already available.
Our room was lovely and spacious and very quiet. Overall a wonderful experience

Cape Lodge has lovely grounds: the planting and setting are a dream. There are also some individual staff who are a delight. Rooms are spacious and meet the grade e.g. an iron/ironing board, a hairdryer, a TV, a minibar, bedside lights, a vanity mirror and so on. However, something is missing, and this 'missing something' is widespread. Without giving opinion, here are our experiences:
- when checking in, we were left standing for around ten minutes while another couple were being managed; there were two more staff members in the room behind reception who eventually noticed to assist my partner and me
- the check in process was very perfunctory, without a smile or platitude; and we have never been walked so fast to our room
- there is one drawer in the room for each of a couple so it is quite difficult to unpack if you are staying for four days
- when we visited the pool, there were no towels except some rolled ones on deck chairs that were wet as they had been by others used as cushions
- when served our wine tasting (included with our rate) the laminated and printed wine description were delivered by an unhappy waiter
- at breakfast, food preparation was marred by witnessing a chef licking his fingers and then wiping them on his apron on three separate occasions as he plated out feta cheese
- when visiting the restaurant lounge at 9pm for tapas (something which is advertised widely as a light alternative to dinner) we were made to feel as if our presence was too late, unwelcome and an imposition by the french speaking waiter; we finished our four dishes and wine by 9.30pm.

I am not sure why so many of the staff seem unhappy. I do not know why the indoor aspects of Cape Lodge feel unloved. This is not somewhere I would chose to return to in a hurry because, for my partner and me, the atmosphere of a place is a really important aspect of a happy stay and this is so much more evident in a small establishment. There is also rather too much price inflation where ever possible. Having lunch at the nearby wineries will put the Cape lodge prices into perspective e.g. the very good Vasse Felix.

Room Tip: Some people get upgrades - to us as experienced travellers, it is a mystery why. There were plenty...

Thank you for your comments regarding your recent visit to Cape Lodge and needless to say we were very upset that your experience at Cape Lodge was far from our usual standard.

We are horrified that you found some of our staff to be unhappy and unhelpful as we genuinely strive to deliver exceptional customer service and are exceedingly proud of the excellent feedback we generally receive about the quality and attitude of our team.

The points you have raised in your review will be addressed and we truly appreciate your feedback.

Kind regards,

Cape Lodge exceeded our high expectations. The restaurant (whose chef is something of a superstar in the Margaret River region) was nothing short of superb, with creative yet crowd-pleasingly pitch-perfect fare. Even cooked breakfasts became a gourmet experience.

Cape Lodge's staff defied the West Australian trend for poor service. For example, three separate staff members made the point of telling us the beginning of our wine tour had been delayed. The rooms themselves matched the standard of service and food. Unlike many other similar places, suites were actually spacious and luxuriously appointed.

The only downside to the experience, and I am definitely nit-picking, is that Cape Lodge, unlike many of its peers, is not based around heritage buildings, so lacks period charm. With this my only criticism, you can tell they are doing many, many things right!

We have just returned after spending 3 nights at Cape Lodge. From arrival to departure, nothing could be faulted.
Our room was amazing, bed very comfortable, and all the little touches made it very special. Gourmet chocolates, little jugs of fresh milk, luxury toiletries, rain water, very lovely.
Our room was very quiet, and you almost felt like you were the only people there.
A lovely drawing/library room to sit in and enjoy home baked muffins and tea or coffee anytime you liked gave it that wonderful touch you don't get in a large hotel. The pool area, tennis courts, croquet area on the lawn, lounges overlooking the lake, all made for a very special few days.
I enjoyed a massage in the spa which is a must do.
What can I say about the restaurant! Breakfast was a delight and choosing from the gourmet selections made you want to stay until you had tried them all. Dinner lived up to our expectations plus more. The chef is to be commended. It was certainly one of the best experiences I've had for a long time.
The staff are a delight and cannot help enough, from front of house, restaurant, bar, groundspeople, housekeeping, nothing was ever too much trouble.

I for one can't wait to go back, and would highly recommend Cape Lodge to anyone looking for a luxury retreat.

Thank you.

We booked a spa suite at Cape Lodge and stayed for two nights. Our package included dinner served in our room and the degustation dinner in the restaurant the following night. After both dinners we felt like a goose about to be made into fois gras! talk about force feeding ourselves and gluttony! The food was so magnificent that we could not leave one morsel. This place deserves all the accolades it has received. You will not believe the number of staff to serve you and their enthusiasm to serve you was outstanding.

The room is starting to look dated with old fittings, such as a tape and CD player rather than an ipod dock. The bed was wonderfully comfortable and the lodge was an excellent base to visit the treasures in the Margaret River region. When walking around this magnificent property, it looks as if the cheaper rooms are just as nice as our more expensive room. so be sure to visit no matter what your budget. A visit to Cape Lodge should be on everyone’s bucket list.
