A visit to Yallingup without going to this general store and cafe would be to miss a piece of surf culture and history. It is hard to describe this wonky old building the locals call the Yallingup Post Office or Andy's. The TV screen always shows the surf and weather predictions, There are a few comfy but old sofas usually occupied by shivering surfers warming up with a coffee or hot chocolate. The burger menu has not changed for years and wholesome soups, muffins and slices of pie with a North American flavour come out of the kitchen every morning. In summer I have the salad and avocado sandwich with two thick slices of fresh multi grain and a salad so thick its a challenge to hold. In winter I can't go past the soup with toasted Yallingup Wood-fired bread. The coffee is good and the smoothies are made to order. Yes its a cafe and yes its a post office but its a more of an experience. If you are camping or passing by you can also grab supplies like milk, fruit and groceries or read the notice board to buy a surf board, find a job or a yoga class. Ask for the latest on wineries with good deals and if you are lucky you might get a great surfing yarn from Andy. It really does not fit the usual Trip Advisor boxes I need to tick - its not classy but it would be totally ruined if it was.
