We stayed at this hostel for a night in one of the double rooms. The staff are really friendly, and switched us from a twin to a double room when we requested. The room itself is a bit of a weird setup which actually works quite well - all the twin and double rooms seem to be in separate little flats containing just two rooms, which means you're living quite closely to those in the other room, but you also get all the facilities between 4 people which is great. The room itself was really nice and felt quite homely, with a comfy bed. The price (for this type of room) was a little more expensive than you'd expect for a hostel, but essentially what you're getting is a very nice room in a flat, which was much better than we were expecting.

Arrived here with no booking looking for a twin room, all was booked up so we ended up staying in a 10 bed dorm. The lady at the front desk was super friendly and this made for a great stay. The room was fine, very clean with small bathroom and an amazing view of the beach!!! The only thing I would say- for 10 people staying in 1 dorm, there was a slight lack of plug sockets, but other than that- what a great place!!!!! Brilliant, brilliant stay. We even ended up extending our stay to 3 nights instead of 2 :)

When we arrived we found out there was a problem with our booking (room only for one) so they kindly and with no complications upgraded us. After staying in a crappy hotel in Auckland before we came to Whitianga, that was just what we needed (and universe knew it;))! Just beautiful comfortable clean place! No complaints!

Location. Hostel is near the water but if you don't have a car be prepared for a walk (especially if you want to do your groceries in new world).

Also friendly helpful staff!

This multi-coloured building contains a nice Coromandel hostel, in which my mates and me stayed in for two nights. At first, the hostel belongs to both the BBH network and the YHA network, which is really good as you can make use of the discount regardless which card you own. The owner is very friendly and there are free kayaks, which is quite rare and a cool recreation opportunity. You walk approx. 5 minutes to the beach - perfect for good weather!

The dorm rooms are long, but not very wide, yet they offer enough space if you don't have too much baggage. The one we slept in also had a (old) small bathroom, which was alright. The toilets on the "hallway" which connects all the rooms are very small too, and so are the showers; some people might feel a bit cramped. The kitchen and attached community room are also not that spacy, so it can get a bit cosy sometimes. Speaking of the kitchen, this was often very dirty, I think it gets cleaned on a regular basis, but sometimes it was just annoying, thanks to some 18 year olds who thought they don't need to do their dishes after cooking and eating.

A really unconvenient thing is the WiFi in this place as it only works in the reception's office which is separated from the main building. Also it's a good 10 minutes drive to the town centre, so you can't simply walk to the supermarket to get some groceries. All in all not an exceptional hostel, but the free kayaks, the cheap rates and the friendliness improve the overall impression a lot.

Nice Place to stay with lots of space, barbeque facilities, within a share good facilities for cooking, private lounge with tv and free dvd. Everything is obviously used for quite some time, but all in all in a good shape and the cleaning lady shows up every day and works properly. In the share you also have your private bathroom, which was pretty comfortable. As the name says it's close to the beach but not this close to the town center and shopping facilities, so it would be good to have a car. We stayed there 3 days and enjoyed it a lot.

The name tells no lie, two minutes across the road and you're on the sand. It's a really lovely beach.

The hostel comprises of four buildings in a 'L' shape, so most rooms won't have sea views but you're so close it doesn't matter.

We stayed in a double room on the second level. It was the biggest room on that level. (There was also a twin room and a dorm with two bunks - these rooms were only half the size of ours)

All of these rooms surround the common area; lounge, dining, and kitchen, so there isn't much quiet time.

Good location...we were lucky with our room!

Room Tip: We were lucky to get a spacious double room, a couple who arrived half an hour after us got a twin...

We camped in our van for one night and then had a double for two nights.Clean and welcoming place.Close to the beach(try the free kayaks !)and not far from town. The owners were very friendly and helpful. We had a double in a kind of apartment with another double, shared kitchen, bathroom and balcony(with BBQ).Spacious, tidy, living room with TV and sofa.In the opposite building is a common room with oceanview and kitchen(we had our own and didn't try this one).It is a big hostel but in this case that is not a bad thing;)friendly people, nice staff and clean facilities...Great place, even for campers.
