The reviews on this page are a testament to the hard work of Tam and Charles. From the moment we drove over the Wairua stream and into their beautiful valley, the scenery and service took our breath away.

We really recommend this retreat for couples who enjoy nature and wildlife. We also recommend to arrive early and make the most of the day. There are many stunning walks through the native forest and several clear blue waterholes perfect for swimming.

Make sure that you stock up on food and use the alfresco dining area and outdoor bbq. We cooked at the B&B every night as the surrounds are more beautiful then any restaurant in Whitianga or Coromandel Town!

The rooms are five star, everything from the fine linen to the decor and furniture makes you feel very spoilt. Make sure top that you book the private bath. This looks down into a rainforest valley and river. Tam and Charles have also installed lights at the bottom of the gully, so at night all the trees light up - it's magical!

Thanks Tam and Charles for making our time in the Coromandel so special. Also, Charles thanks for your great itinerary, every suggestion was perfect, from the close up of the glow worms to the mussel kitchen. We cant wait to come back and visit!

This place would be one of New Zealand's best kept secrets! Tam and Charles have done an amazing job to bring out the best of this property. The natural beauty of the garden alone is worth the stay. My partner and I stayed in a Queen snug for a long weekend and the room and it's setting we're first class. We especially enjoyed the Tree Top bath set in the bush. Yery romantic. The Lodge proved to be an excellent location to explore the surrounding area, with Tam and Charles providing really helpful insights about what to see and do. Overall with all the lovely additional extras that you don't usually see these days, I can't help but recommend this property enough!

My wife and I stayed at Wairua Lodge for three nights at the end of December in a Queen Snug room and were pleasantly surprised and in fact amazed when we first arrived. One of the hosts, Tam gave us a tour of the lodge on arrival and her and Charles have obviously worked very hard to make it as nice as possible for guests who stay there. There were also the little touches that made the stay even better, such as buckets and spades for hot water beach, a good selection of DVDs to choose from, a nicely set up communal kitchen and barbecue and a very comfortable dining area. All the decor was tasteful, the rooms lovely and the bathroom a good size. We made good use of the room's own outdoor table and chairs, but worth mentioning especially was the tree top bath, a separate and private room which is open on one side to the bush and a stream (candles and a selection of chill out CDs are also a feature of the bath area). There is also a hot tub which we were looking forward to using, however, never got the chance, but it looked clean and very inviting. The location is great, close to Whitianga but also within easy reach of Hahei, Cathedral Cove and Hot Water Beach. If we had known how nice this place was going to be, we would have stayed there the entire time while we were visiting the Coromandel area as it is within easy driving distance for all the main sights, including Coromandel Town. Tam and Charles were amazing hosts, very friendly and went all out to make our stay as relaxed and memorable as possible. We highly recommend Wairua Lodge and would definitley stay there again. Affordable luxury in amazing and tranquil surroundings.

We stayed 2 nights in a Queen snug and this place really takes your breath away. The garden is really beautiful .. especially at this time of the year ... and it is so peaceful; the only sounds you hear are the birds chirping and the sound of the wind.

The rooms were cosy and the bed was very comfortable. The kitchen was well-equipped and the dining area was very pleasant. We appreciated the little extras such as the bathrobes and additional towels, the french press coffee maker, the magazines in the room and the free use of spade and shoes/slippers for the beach.

The tree top bath was exactly how it was in the pictures: romantic and relaxing.

Tam was a gracious, warm and welcoming host. She provided us with maps and brochures of the area and also did up a little map of the trails around the lodge. We really appreciated her efforts in making us comfortable while giving us lots of privacy at the same time. We really liked the breakfast arrangement of delivering us the continental breakfast the day before so that we could enjoy it at leisure at anytime we fancy and anywhere in the lodge- on the bed/ outside at the patio/ in the garden...

It wasn't that easy for us cityfolks to get to the lodge as we are not used to driving around the gravel road and on the steep driveway. The instructions which were sent to us in advance, were very helpful - very clear and helped us to be mentally prepared.

It was so hard to leave this hidden gem after 2 days - we will miss the beautiful serenity, Tam's warmth and their cute cat too - and we will definitely return. Even though there is no telephone or internet reception because of the location, once there in the lodge, you won't miss them. If you are in the Coromandel peinsula, this lodge really is a must-stay; in fact, it ranks top in our North Island trip for beauty, service and value.

We ended up staying an extra night we loved the place so much!
We were on our honeymoon and travelled to Fiji after we stayed here and I recommend this place much highly than I recommend the place we were at in Fiji.
We didn't get the pleasure of meeting Tam but Charles was lovely and friendly and very welcoming.
I loved the tree top bath and the creek the best, so relaxing and just what we needed.
We stayed in the self contained room as it was so spacious and homely and we didn't want to leave! I can't reccommend this place highly enough, I'm on quite a downer after coming back from such a wonderful little place, a true hideaway in the middle of no where.
You will not be disappointed in this place.
