“Small and Quiet”
Reviewed 23 January 2013

This place reminded me of when I was younger going to see my grandparents. It has a very rustic feel to it. The owners were very nice and always willing to help you out with anything. Close to the beach and close to everything down town. My only issues were the pressure of the water when taking a shower and the kitchen was relatively small. Everybody I meet here were very excited to be on the road so the people made the stay that much more relaxing.

Casual, youthful, homey, timeless. Very convenient to town and beach, great value for the price.

I have a mild allergy to cats. I'm usually fine, unless there is nearby cat urine or a heard of longhairs. Within 30 minutes of being here I was sneezing, red eyed and popping antihistamines left and right. This completely ruined my stay but wasn't the only issue. Staff is hard to find, dorm facilities are rickety, the decoration is hilariously tacky and you generally get the feeling the owner is trying to get as many guests through the place as possible without having to make any improvements. In four months of travelling through Asia and Oceania, this was probably my worst accommodation. I would definitely not stay here again.

Great place! I do not usually stay in backpackers but this one is great. We found it to be very clean, friendly host and good kitchen facilities. Very cozy inside and nice outside area. Perfect location, close to everything - beach, pubs, takeaways.

Anne was friendly and very helpful although we found that despite this and the cheap price we would not stay here again.

The hostel is rather dirty. Someone had thrown up all over the dorm room and bathroom the night before we stayed. We mentioned this to Anne who promptly went to wipe down the part of the wall that had been missed. However a really strong disinfectant was needed as there was still a strong smell of vomit. Due to this we tried to avoid the bathroom as much as possible and used the one inside the house only to find this was just as crusty and smelly as the other one.

The bedroom walls were full of squashed mosquitos and overall the hostel was a bit manky. If you don't mind basic and dirty then this won't be a problem!

We stayed in the double room without ensuite. The owners were very friendly and helpful, and the room was small and basic but clean. The kitchen and dining space were OK; it was difficult to find any room in the fridge, but the pantry storage was spacious. Only three showers/toilets meant sometimes there was a wait. There were a couple of cockroaches around (I saw a dismembered one in the lounge, and a very live one in the bathroom.) The communal and outdoor areas were well laid out. There is no laundry or drying room, but a laundromat around the corner. The location was excellent with shops and the beach almost on the doorstep.
For the price we felt it was quite adequate.

Amazing place, the most enjoyable hostel I stayed in, mostly because of the people there. Everyone is really friendly and mingles around. There is a nice TV area and lots of outdoor areas to eat and hang out.

Toilets were a little scarce - 4 showers and 3 toilets for the whole hostel (I think about 3 dorm rooms and 2 singles).

The nakedbus stops right outside the hostel if you ask Anne to call the driver for you. Intercity stops outside as well. The beach is right outside on the street, New World supermarket is a 5-7 minute walk. Liquor stores are 2 minutes away.

Beds were actually of pretty bad quality - sinking in most of the time. Rooms were equipped with fans which was very helpful.
