This is a great place for the family, in a close position to supermarkets and other attractions (5mins away) and a really great pool just outside our room! I would recommend it for anyone taking a short stay in whitianga :)

Thank you for comments and it is great to know that you enjoyed your stay with us. Heated pool is a big hit, equally with kids and adults. I hope you will choose to stay with us whenever visiting Whitianga again.

We stayed two nights, room was huge, clean & really comfortable.
Staff extremely friendly, warm & welcoming. Location was central, easy access to beach, walks and an average stroll or very short drive to shops & restaurants Would stay here again in a heartbeat.

From the outside this place looks like an average motel, but the rooms are excellent and the views from the rooms are amazing. Everything you could need is included, free WiFi and sky channels. Quiet and welcoming, with a lovely pool. Good location.

Looking down the beach front at all of the modern contemporary styled accommodation, you would be forgiven for questioning how the Admiralty Lodge got to number 2 on Trip Advisor!
This place is not contemporary or modern but the staff and accommodation make all the difference.
We had an end first floor spa room and it was large in all respects with just about everything one could need for a self catering stay. The room was clean and fresh with a kind of quirky kind of feel to it. It also had a large enclosed balcony. It even had curtains to close off the bed area, you know, hospital style LOL, very strange but very useful for getting rid of light for sleep ins.
The manager, Ambuj, is great as is his dog. Nothing is too much trouble and he even lent us his spade to go digging at the Hot Water Beach.
Two luggage racks which is very unusual and very useful, free good internet, free video library, book exchange, free computer use, coin laundry, free bikes, little putting green and a very warm pool.
It's all very homely and it has been a delight to stay there.
We would stay there again for sure!
Paul

Pros – Staff seemed nice and were helpful. The room was very large with a separate bedroom and 2 extra beds in the other area. The view was great. They had DVD’s to borrow. There was free WiFi (if you can get it to work). They have a nice kitchenette and tons of storage.
There is a nice, kid friendly beach easily accessible from the room.

Cons – It’s about 2 miles out of the town center. It looks like they renovated bathrooms and they look nice, but they are not as functional as they should be. Toilet was for someone over 6’10” (I’m 5’7” and my toes could barely touch the floor and my 4 year old son had to get help to use it standing up). The sink area looks nice, but the counter depth is more narrow than the sink so there is no room to put stuff and it also makes it so the drawers are so short they are hard to use. They tried to make up for it with storage in the medicine cabinet/mirror.. but then that is deeper, so when you go to wash your face in the sink you hit your head on the mirror because it sticks out almost as far as the counter top. The tub it supposed to be a nice spa tub, but when you go to use it as a shower it actually felt more closed in than a normal tub. After using the shower the edges of the tub always had residue left after, maybe from a not steep enough drainage slope? The couches looked nice but were low and kind of hard. My wi-fi connection wouldn’t work (that could have been due to my phone, because my husband’s phone could connect, however my phone didn’t have issues in other locations in that area).
The blinds for the huge sliding doors are tricky and the light would come through to wake up our son early. And the ones in the bed room are not totally opaque.. so you could see figures through them.. you couldn't "see" someone changing, but you could see that there was someone changing... if that makes sense.

If I came to this area again, I would consider this location but would see if there was something closer to the town center available first since we had to drive in for every meal.

We were recommended to stay here by our tour operator as we were travelling through Auckland. We were supposed to get a studio unit, but the unit we were given looked like it was a one bedroom - it had 4 beds! It was very spacious for just the two of us and very clean. The unit also had a fully equipped kitchen and a spa in the bathroom. Out the back, you have views over the beach. Even though it has common walls with other units on the complex, it felt very secluded and that there was no one staying there. We saw only one couple during our time of stay. We had a restful sleep.

The owner was very friendly and was helpful when we needed him. Overall a great stay and recommended if needing a stay in Whitianga/Coromandel Peninsula.

Our experience with Admiralty Lodge was exceptional from booking (at first there was no availability, but the friendly manager, Ambuj, e-mailed me a few days later when he had a cancellation), to reception, service (twice we made a request which was fulfilled within about 10 minutes) and the room itself: clean and modern, air-conditioned, full equipped kitchen and the bathroom was incredible with huge spa bath/shower, bathrobes, swim and beach towels, hair dryer.
This is one of the few accommodations in Coromandel that has a pool, which was heated and large enough to do some laps. It's close to town, but still away from it enough to be quiet and nice view of beach. Can't say enough good things about this place - excellent!

Room Tip: First floor rooms are great because they have sliding doors to a patio, and from there you can walk...
