We have been using Dive Zone Whitianga for our dive and kayak trips for the past 6 years. Darrell and the team have always done their upmost to make our experience awesome, finding interesting dive spots and going the extra mile with their gear advice. A great experience for all skill and confidence levels.

Where do I start ...
Well the times that ive visited DiveZone Whitianga have always been outstanding!!
Last weekend when I went out with the team on the boat we went to a local dive spot by the name of Ohinau, where we saw a family of Orca whales ( killer whales ) which was absolutely amazing! my first incounter with them ever. Definitely something to remember!! also, we saw some baby seals :D so cute. But back to the diving, beautiful clear blue water with visibility upto 15metres!! saw countless amount of fish life even a puffer fish wich was pretty cool :) as we finished the diving for the day we stopped off at a beach called Opito where the team dropped down and gathered our limite for scollaps. As the day came to an end the staff gave me a good feed of crayfish and scollaps to take home. All I can say is money well spent and definitely something to come and visit.
Thanks DiveZone Whitianga for the memorable event

Very disappointed to go on a trip to Ohinau island with a group of Open Water learners when we were promised a trip to Mercury Islands. I wasn't keen on the stop to (in their words) 'rape & pillage' for scallops, especially with beginner divers. The sites were average with no option of a deeper dive for more experienced divers and they didn't seem to really seek out the best spots, just went where was easy for their open water divers. Didn't feel like good value at &175 each (incl tanks and weights). Make sure you know exactly what you'll be getting before you go out. One thing in their favour is that the staff were really lovely.

Hi Laurieanne,
Wow, really disappointed to hear you were so unhappy with your experience diving with us and sorry for the delay in responding to your comments but Trip Advisor is something we have only just started to figure out how to use!
Firstly you are right - you obviously were particular about what you wanted to achieve with your diving on the day and should have let our staff know. Ohinau has a number of fantastic dive spots and is part of the Mercury Island group, perhaps you didnt realise this. Safety is paramount consideration for our very well qualified crew as is enjoyment. Dive sites are chosen on the day based on what marine conditions are going to offer the best dive sites on any given day. I believe our very experienced staff chose the dive sites that day based on everyones experience levels - yours included as well as sea conditions/currents.
And yes we agree "rape and pillage" is not the most PC terminology for gathering seafood. However, rest assured our crew only ever catch within allowed limits (if they are catching) and usually our customers are delighted with the opportunity to be able to take a wee feed of seafood home with them if the opportunity arises. If you choose to come diving with us again please do let us know what you would like to achieve and our very experienced staff will be more than happy to assist.

Went on a dive charter with Ash, Leighton and the lovely Shona through Dive Zone Whitianga on a local boat and had a great day out. Crayfish everywhere. Highly recommend the dive shop and the staff, they even washed and dried my dive gear!.
