“Nice all around luxury hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 June 2014

I was surprised to learn that this Ritz is already seven years old, I thought based on the condition and style that it could not have been more than a couple years old. It seemed more current and up to date than some of the older Ritz Carlton properties. There was noticeably less staff than most luxury hotels but that never seemed to affect the service level, it was still top notch. The room was very well appointed and maintained, it felt like a peaceful oasis like a luxury hotel should but often they do not. The gym was large with great equipment. The food was good both in the lobby lounge and served for room service. The lobby lounge servers in the evening were the only people that seemed unpolished and were forcing there attitude versus a more natural experienced person. Andrew Grossman at the front desk delivered exceptional service, making us feel very comfortable. I would definitely stay at this property for business or with a family. It is so nice to experience a hotel that was hitting on all cylinders.

From arriving in your car to staying in your room, every detail is taken care of in a personal way. They know your name and use it often, along with sir or mam in a very polite fashion. Front desk, bellmen, maid service, room service, restaurants and valet are all great and very attentive. I have enjoyed several stays for business and personal visits. Top of the line!

Room Tip: Ask for an upgrade, if available you should get it.

My hubby and I stayed for one night as a quick getaway. The location is fairly incongruous with the gleaming glass hotel and residences -- downtown White Plains visually appears to still be awaiting revitalization.

Our arrival was very promising, with the doorman and the desk attendant practicing the classic Ritz Carlton methodology of saying your name as many times as they can. It's a nice touch. Our room was clean, very spacious and nicely appointed, with shiny wood, modern yet comfortable style, and good lighting. The really large bathroom wasn't just about square footage -- it was set up in a practical way and was also beautiful, with two tones of polished marble. The sink and counter were at a reasonable height. The tub was very deep, which my hubby appreciated, although if you had any mobility problems it would have been a challenge to step into -- although there were grab bars they weren't particularly strategic when getting in and out of the shower. The bed was OK but not terrific in terms of comfort. Everything worked with the exception of one of the ballpoint pens, but there was another one there so no big deal.

I think the true test of a hotel's service is not in its style of interaction, but how the staff reacts when there are glitches. It was a small thing, but after a pre-dinner nap when we had the "do not disturb" sign on the door and missed turn-down, we called the number provided to order turndown service when we went for dinner. We called a little before 7 p.m., took the privacy sign and light off of our door, and had a nice long dinner. When we returned at 9 p.m. the room had not been touched. I called the guest services number and although the staff member apologized on the other end of the phone, he seemed to stumble as to what to do next. I told him we were now back in the room and didn't want to interrupt our evening, but did need some ice.

Soon a knock was at the door and the housekeeper wanted to do the turndown service (so much for communication) -- she had already put the sign on our door that the room was being made up, as if we weren't inside and might return. Another staff member showed up with a bucket of ice, and we explained to the housekeeper that we didn't now want her to make up the room. Again, this wasn't such a big deal, but since we only had the one night for our little getaway and this was the Ritz Carlton, we expected flawless service and staff communication.

When we checked out and mentioned the turndown issue, again the staff member seemed flustered, saying she'd "look into it," which sort of doesn't make sense because we were literally checking out. We did love that upon taking our valet parking ticket the bellman asked to bring us some chilled bottles of water, which was much appreciated.

So we had a nice but not spectacular Ritz Carlton stay.

1. The bed was very shoft. Me and wife did not sleep well.
2. At breakfast the selection of food was very poor.
3. Service at the resturant in lobby was very slow at breakfast.
Spa experience was excellent. My wife got a few massages.
The pool is also great and the area very relaxing. Very good wet and dry spas. We will be bAck. Wish some problems improve.

We recently hosted our daughter's wedding at the Westchester Ritz-Carlton in White Plains. We could not have been more thrilled. The food was superb and the service was exemplary. Everyone commented at how wonderful the Ritz personnel catered to them. From Rebecca and Oscar in catering to the concierge and maid service for their comfort.

We cannot recommend the Ritz high enough.

I recently spent a night at the Ritz as part of a business trip. The hotel is very nice, as you would expect. Service was also very good as was my room.

My room was large by hotel standards. It was comfortable but lighting was a little questionable.

The bathroom was very large and well appointed.

Public areas were welcoming and warm.

We ate at BLT, the hotel restaurant, and it was the best Steakhouse restaurant I've ever experienced. Give it a try!

This was not remotely the equal of other Ritz Carltons at which I have stayed, but it was fine for two nights. The room was comfortable but on the small side. (The bathroom was very nice, however - typical of the Ritz brand.) Service was a mixed bag. The night I arrived, in the pouring rain, a taxi was parked right in front of the front door for several minutes, so finally I just had the car service let me out in the parking lot. After wrestling my bags to the front door, in the pouring rain, I then discovered no doorman there - so more wrestling of bags through the door and across the lobby to the front desk. The second night I arrived back after dinner to find music booming through the walls from somewhere in the hotel, but fortunately that ended by around 10:30. The concierge was very helpful with local directions. The location is a little weird, right in the middle of newish downtown White Plains in an office area that was pretty deserted at the weekend. (I assume they cater mostly for business travellers.) All in all, this was okay, and convenient for my purposes, but I wouldn't be in a hurry to come back.
