“Nice area”
Reviewed 10 February 2008

In 2004, we wanted to visit the Adirondacks and found the Ledge Rock website. After talking on the phone with the owners, Dave & Jean, we decided to take a chance on it. We have stayed in many hotels throughout the the U.S. & Canada and are sometimes dissapointed. When we arrived, we were pleasantly surprised with a nice view, a large, clean room with a small deck and picture window, and friendly innkeepers. We came during the spring off-season, so the pool wasn't open quite yet, but our experience was relaxing and quiet. In 2007, we decided to stay there again, and were not dissapointed. The motel is located about 10 miles from Lake Placid, but the roadway twists and turns along the AuSable river and fly fishermen were out. The drive is exceptional in the evening as the sun is setting. Day trips through Upper Jay, Keene, Lake Placid, up to the summit of Whiteface Mtn, Chapel Pond, AuSable Chasm, ... are very relaxing and sometimes sublime. Fort Ticonderoga and even ice cream in Vermont (they have the best) are nice to try once. Early morning and evening are the best for photography. When we went in '07', they were just finishing a new coat of paint on the outside, and had just bought several brand new grills for guest use, which we used a few times. The great room is nice for sitting down for a movie, eating a pizza, or a game of pool. They have some movies, but you can also bring your own. If you have a family with young children like us, or are into fishing, hiking, skiing, bicycling, rock climbing, or just a peaceful setting, this area is nice and Ledge Rock is well located. If you are looking for room service and more nightlife, staying in Lake Placid might be more for you. If you're trying to get away from the crowds and enjoy the Adirondack park, while staying in a decently maintained place, I would recommend Ledge Rock at Whiteface.

We stayed in this hotel in December, 2007 and spent 5 nights. I can say only positive words about this hotel, and about people, who were working for us. First of all, we made reservation by phone and they were pleasant and friendly, and explained all details for us, that were very important because it was the very first time for us in Lake Placid. Second of , our friend unexpectedly jointed us , and they provided us a cot , without any additional charges .Third of all, room was warm , spacious , and clean, fresh towels every day , beds are very comfortable ,view was just incredible, you can observe White Face mountain and see every slope , and this is just wonderful , please see the photo; and the most important – it was good deals with lift tickets .Finally, every evening we did enjoy Fireplace, and free sweet table at 7:30 PM , they provided absolute free every evening fresh cookies , brownies ,and etc. and I would like to thank stuff of Ledge Rock for such pleasant time for me and my family.

I just stayed at the Ledge Rock and was beyond pleased with the experience. The owners and staff went way out of their way to make my
stay more enjoyable. I would recommend this location to anyone looking to stay in the Lake Placid/Whiteface region. The hotel was centrally located to every place I wanted to be, clean, comfortable with great service. Give it a try.

We stayed here 2 nights in the first week of March for a skiing trip at Whiteface. They had really great ski packages. The hotel is the closest to the witeface ski slopes. You can literally walk across the highway from the hotel to get to the slopes. The hotel is facing the whiteface mountain, the view was very nice!

We had 2 rooms that were connected and one room had a kitchen, on the first floor (no dishwasher). The rooms are a little old but very spacious. The beds were comfortable. The rooms are not the cleanest but it's acceptable. One thing that we didn't like is that the walls between rooms not very sound proof, we could hear our neighbors clearly eventhough they were not really loud.

Overall i think this is a good stay considering the price we paid. It will be a perfect place if you come here for a ski trip or when you just need a good night sleep and don't plan to stay in the room a lot of times.

The place look really nice on the internet pictures, but the reality was very different. The room was nothing special, and the bathroom was the worse. Old dripping faucets and the shower look anything but clean. The views from the room were to the main road whith a lot of constant traffic. We went to the pool, and more than a pool was a pond with dirty and cold water. The water slide wasn't even there!! The service wasn't much better either, the owner was very rude and when we decided to leave a day earlier he charged us an extra night as an early check out fee. We travel a lot and this was our worse experience ever. We don't recomemnd this place unless you have no other option!!

  • Liked — nothing really

Looking for a quiet mountian resort Not Here!
all rooms overlook the main roadway with constant traffic. We went into the pool not heated the water was not even up to the skimmer filter system and while we in the pool the owner was filling it up with ice cold water, which we did not like but maybe the frogs did ( yes I said Frogs). The slide in the photos is non exisent. As for a leisurly ride in our pond Forget About it! The pond is a small run of basin with muddy brown water and about 2' deep and 1 old paddle boat to use. grillon our outdoor grills scattered about our 5 acre lawn 2 old grills and several broken tables on maybe 1 acre of lawn The owner did say we could use his gas grill but he whoever used it last stillhad food on there. the palyround consisitd of one swing set with one swing. the great room was anything but great. 1 old pool tble that with the felt that looked like a kids birthday party was held on it and several cue sticks with no tips. the board games consisted of sevearl old games with lots of missing peices and a deck of cards all 37 of them. rounded out the entertainment. the room was nice expect for the bathroom door the didnt close the faucets that drippd and the toliet seat that had one screw holding it on. We were supposed to stay for a week but checked out the next morning and the owner charged us for 2 nights stating we had to forfiet our deposit for the second night, avoid this palce at all cost, the price you pay is not what you get.
