I skied the Friday of President's Weekend in February. It was not crowded and I never had to wait in line for a lift. The conditions on this day were variable. The trails that had the snow guns going improved throughout the afternoon. They had some rain and lots of wind the day before. The weather was perfect on this day. Most of the East Peak section was icy so I stuck with the main mountain. None of the double blacks were that outrageous. I don't consider myself a risk taker, but had fun skiing the Wolverine trails. The lodge was nice and also not very crowded. I purchased my lift ticket in advance on the Liftopia web site and saved about $10. I would definitely return, but on a similar day when there are no crowds. I believe the photos give a pretty accurate visual of Windham Mountain.

I have been going to Windham Mountain for quite a few years and love it. My husband and I used to take the kids when they were younger because it is a very family friendly environment and now that they are college age they go on their own with friends. We ski and the kids snowboard. We have our own equipment so I can't comment on the other person's complaint about the rentals being so busy. There are numerous ski lift tickets available ranging from all day to half day to night only, as well as season passes and college discounts. The slopes range from very easy to difficult and there is a section with rails for snowboarders to do more fun stuff! There is a snowtubing park as well if you want to do something different if you're there for a few days and there was even a European trampoline set up during the holidays this year. The lodge is nice with decent cafeteria food and a lounge upstairs with good bar food and entertainment. A new restaurant just open upstairs, but I haven't tried it yet! Overall, my family loves Ski Windham.

I went to Windham in late Feb 2008 and had a really good experience. I'd only been skiing once before in my life, so I was very much a beginner. I took a 2 hour lesson and thought it was very good. Progression is gradual and the step up from the kiddie hill where you start (basically flat) to the bunny slope (with a lift) to the shortest green trail is a manageable progression. I didn't feel like I was overstretching each time I went up a step. I went with some more experienced skiers who also had a great experience with the more intermediate and advanced slopes.

The only drawback is how crowded it is. The weekend I went was perfect conditions (fresh powder) and a beautiful day and it was absolutely overrun. It took forever to get rentals. There were scads and scads of little kids. More problematic were their non-skiing or boarding parents who would just stand around on the slopes taking photographs of their kids, oblivious to the fact that there wasn't enough room for people who were actually trying to ski or board, much less lookie-loos. Loads of beginning snowboarders, too, who fall a lot and have a strange tendency to just sit on the slopes later in the day oblivious to the fact that they are an obstacle to other people.

Overall I thought the mountain was great - it was the excessive people who tarnished the experience! But with it being so close to NYC and a destination for lots (and lots, and lots) of group trips and day trips, it's inevitable. Still a good time, though.
