“Perfect for ski weekends”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 December 2013

We had 3 adults staying two nights and only spent evenings in the room. Our room was a 1 bedroom condo. Small kitchen, small dining table (seating for 4) 2 small stools at counter/bar, pull out sofa and a chair. The bedroom is quite large with a king size bed and Chair. The bathroom has a sink with small amount of counter space, 1 person shower and a nice sized whirlpool tub.

The positives: The place is very close to the sugar mountain entrance!!!! There is a grocery store very close as well. Several restaurants and small shops on Tynecastle road. The décor of the room is very nice.
The condo sleeps a max of 4 and if you have visitors there is seating for 11, it would be very crowded but can be done. We had six seated comfortably.
The bedroom is quite large and there is plenty of room for a crib, cot or sleeping bag without stumbling over and had its own TV.
The king size bed was very comfortable.
The property is really very pretty, there was a small children's playground across from our building and a stream.
Although we only interacted with the staff at check-in, they were very nice.

The negatives: The pull out sofa is a double so if two are going to sleep on it you had better be small or used to sleeping close together. I was told that it is very uncomfortable. There were only 5 down (3 in master, 2 for sofa) pillows available in the room. There was only 1 blanket available for the pull out sofa (he regretted not asking for another blanket).
Some of the kitchen cooking utensils were dirty and needed to be washed before use.
The whirlpool tub was dirty and needed to be cleaned before use and there were no cleaning products available in the room so we had to use bar soap and washcloth to clean it.
The shower - #1 a note to indicate the H for hot is actually cold would have been nice. #2 due to the small shower, if you turn the water on full blast the force of the water bypasses the curtain and ends up on the bathroom floor. Also due to small shower you can get that full blast right into your face depending on your height.
The building is older and showing its age as there was mineral buildup on the sink faucet and some tiles along the bottom of tub had no grout and the small toilet rocked when you sat on it.
Supposedly there is wifi but we were never able to use it. Thankfully we had 3g smartphones so it wasn't an issue.

Overall, with the exception of having to clean the tub, the negatives were rather minor.
We would definitely stay there again, for skiing weekends, but if we had to spend longer there and/or require dependable internet, we would not.

We were a little bit concerned after reading some of the negative reviews about this location but, were very pleasantly surprised when we arrived. The night security staff checked us in as we arrived after hours and they were very courteous and friendly.

The room was clean and had most of the pots, pans, utensils, etc. needed for cooking. The room had 2 cable TV's, a washer and dryer, dishwasher, stove, microwave and more. The fireplace and jet tub were a nice added touch. The indoor pool and hot tub was also within walking distance of our room.

Sugar mountain is less than 15 minutes from the resort and beech mountain is less than 25 minutes so you can have your pick.

We definately give this place a thumbs up and can't understand why people wrote negative reviews about it. Maybe they have remodeled recently.

We spent a couple of days with our daughter and her family at Blue Ridge Village last week. The condo was beautiful and clean with updated furnishings and a lovely kitchen featuring granite counter tops. This unit was a little off, past the room service department, on the ground level. It was very private and had a small patio facing the woods. Unfortunately, it was not warm enough to be outside. But I can imagine that is very nice and peaceful to sit there on a clement evening, sipping your favorite beverage. This was a 2-bedroom unit and it accommodated 5 people quite well. My granddaughter complained some about the pull-out couch having a hard mattress, but she is 15....enough said. We did hear some children's noise from the condo above, but this was minimal. I had stayed at Festiva Blue Ridge some years back with out daughter in another 2-bedroom unit, which was larger and had a balcony facing the lake. This unit was also very nice and inviting. We will be back.

My wife and I spent a delightful week last month at this high country resort near the famed ski areas of Sugar and Beech Mountains. The remodeled room was spacious, clean, and had a great view. We particularly enjoyed the small lake on the property and the large indoor pool at the registration building. The fresh mountain air and serenity of the forest was invigorating, and the Fall color change in the leaves spectacular. We drove up from Charlotte, and took daytrips down to the Biltmore in Asheville, over to Roan Mountain in TN, up to ASU in Boone, and along the incredible Blue Ridge Parkway to Grandfather Mountain, with a stop at the Moses Cone mansion. We bought food at the Food Lion market, had coffee at Larry and Fred’s, and caught a concert by Baron Carroll at Lees McRae College. We dined at Bella’s, China House, Valle de Bravo, Nick’s Pub, and the Banner Elk Café -- all highly recommended. Friendly folks and laid back feeling added to the adventure.

Room Tip: A view of the lake is a must!

We absolutely loved our stay at Blue Ridge Village. We have often stayed in places in the past where we dutifully planned activities for every day to make sure we got the children out of the house so they wouldn't go crazy. On this trip, we did plan some fun outings -- the resort is close to Grandfather Mountain, and only a short drive from Boone, Linville Caverns, Linville Falls, and the original Mast General Store in Valle Crucis. However, there was so much to do on property that any outings we did were for the joy of the outing, and not to desperately entertain our children. They were quite entertained as it was!

We enjoyed paddle-boating through the pond, and borrowing from the extensive collection of board games they had available to borrow. They have several closets full of equipment you can borrow to play mini-golf, tennis, basketball, bocce ball, and corn hole, and we took advantage of those several times over the week of our stay. We took our kids each day to swim in the indoor, heated pool, which also has a whirlpool spa AND a great view of the mountain. In the pool just before sunset, the mountain seemed to glow bright red. Gorgeous! Tip: If you don't want to get chlorine on your clothes before heading back OR you don't want to freeze if you're walking, what we did was this. Wear your swimsuit under your clothes to the pool, and bring under-garments to change into before leaving. There are rooms to change in just off of the pool, and you can change out of your wet swimsuit before heading back.

We enjoyed the continental breakfast on Tuesday, and there was always hot coffee brewed in the Lodge if you were passing by.

We were in one of the renovated three-bedroom units, and it was beautiful and clean. We had balconies upstairs and down with gorgeous views of Sugar Mountain. The gas fireplace was simple to use and heated the room quickly after walking through the cold after a swim! The kitchen was clean and well-stocked even with items we didn't expect to make our stay easier, and had a dishwasher, microwave, and icemaker in the fridge. The upstairs master bathroom had a large jacuzzi tub.

The two downsides (and really they weren't enough to sway my overall experience of BRV as positive): First, as others have mentioned, the wi-fi is spotty and drops in and out. Somehow, though, I was still able to make it through a 45 minute international-Skype gaelic class while there, though it got a little digital sounding. With myself and one of my children in online college classes, having wifi was essential, and we were still able to get everything done. So, at least in our condo, the wifi wasn't non-existant, but it was spotty.

Secondly, as others have mentioned, the condos are not solid on soundproofing. We were on a top unit, and had 7 people staying in our condo, and on our second night were disturbed by a *very nice* security guard asking about an noise complaint that had been called in by the neighbor underneath. The catch? This was at 10:30 at night, 2 of our 7 were upstairs asleep, 1 was in the tub upstairs, 2 more were laying down and almost asleep (but awakened by the knock on the door), and the other two were laying on the couches watching Forrest Gump -- not even walking around the room. The noise? Our washing machine was on the spin cycle. So, I'm guessing that if you want a super silent stay without having to hear neighbors, you might do well to get a top unit. Just as a follow up to that, I was worried about the soundproofing after that visit, and a bit paranoid that we would be dealing with that kind of thing all week, so the next morning I asked the front desk about it. They were extremely kind, encouraged us to enjoy our vacation, and assured us that if the downstairs neighbor had problems with a normal level of living noise, they'd gladly offer to relocate him to a top unit. That's win-win, and I'm thankful they were able to be attentive to the needs of both sets of guests.

Overall, we found Blue Ridge Village to be a perfect place for a vacation. The staff were kind and helpful, the grounds are lovely and well-maintained, the condos are clean and spacious, and there are many fun things to do without even leaving the property.

Room Tip: Request an upstairs room if you're not used to apartment or condo living sounds.

The resort is relatively updated, very clean and beautiful. Our unit was very clean and furnishings new. Perfect location and within 20 minutes of most activities. Be forewarned that there is virtually no internet service there. We had to go to the coffee shop, 2 min away for it...BTW that coffee shop (Mountain Gounds) was excellent!

Hello,

I work with Patton Hospitality Management, the management company of Blue Ridge Village. We are so happy that you enjoyed your stay and your time in Banner Elk. We love Mountain Grounds too! I'm sorry to hear about your experience with the internet. Sometimes when a lot of guests are accessing the internet with multiple devices all at one time, it can significantly slow it down. We will certainly take a look at what we can do to improve this.

Thank you so much for the review - we look forward to seeing you again in the future!

Blue Ridge has nice size condos with comfortable beds, good kitchens, fireplace, washer/dryer and porches. We had a two bedroom condo. Others in group had the one bedroom and said the sleep sofas were not comfortable. Staff were super friendly. We went with a group and found the resort is quite large and you actually drive between buildings and to the front desk/lodge pool. We went for Fall but it was quite cold - it snowed, so we didn't use tennis courts or pool but they seemed in good condition. As other reviewers have said, walls are thin and you hear folks going up and down stairs but if that's your expectation it's livable. Good value for the dollar. Internet was weak and I wish they had offered some housekeeping but otherwise enjoyed our stay.

Hello,

I work with Patton Hospitality Management, the management company of Blue Ridge Village. We are happy to hear that you enjoyed your time in Banner Elk, despite the cold. Winter seems to be coming very early this year!

I'm sorry to hear about your experience with the internet. Sometimes when a lot of guests are accessing the internet with multiple devices all at one time, it can significantly slow it down, but we will certainly take a look at what we can do to improve this. Typically at vacation ownership properties like Blue Ridge Village, if you stay a full week or longer the housekeeping staff will come in for a midweek cleaning, but I can understand that being an adjustment if you've never stayed at a property like this before.

We appreciate the review and your feedback and hope to see you again in the future!
