“Loved it, ate there two nights in a row”
Reviewed 17 August 2008

On a recent trip to the mountains, we were surprised at how many of the restaurants closed at 9pm. We stumbled on The Lodge, which was open late, and were delighted to be able to sit outside. Our waiter, Justin, was friendly and attentive, and the food was great. There was a wide variety, from burgers to pasta to seafood dishes. We planned to go for breakfast because the menu was so appealing. Prices were very reasonable for such great ambiance. The second night we were in town we stopped by a restaurant that had been recommended to us, and after looking at the menu decided the prices were way over our head. We were happy to go right back to the Lodge where we had been the night before. Justin was there again, and remembered our drink preferences from the night before. Great service, great prices, and good food. I look forward to returning.

A group of friends visited the Lodge at Banner Elk during the New Year’s holidays and were most disappointed after with the complete lack of knowledge about anything that relates to the customer service. Let’s begin with our request for what beers were available, the answer was “almost everything.” After bringing the menu, we requested one beer in the menu, then few minutes later found out that it was not available. After requesting a second option, the same situation occurred. Not available!
At the beginning of the adventure, we asked for water with lemon and after 45 minutes of the lemon not delivered, we requested it again, and were told that they did not have lemons cut.
We sat on the covered patio, which was very cold, and requested that they turn on the heaters. After several requests, they did. The heaters were so incredibly hot, that we decided being cold was a better option.
The worst part of the entire fiasco was that after a 1 hour and 15 minutes wait, the food was not yet on the table. Then after complaining about the long wait, the salads were brought to the table. At this point we asked how long would the rest of the meals take, but our waiter was absolutely clueless about it. We said that we would like all the food on the table in 5 miutes. The waiter said she would check. We waited 5 minutes and since she did not even bother to come back to report on the status of the food, we left without having our meal.
Furthermore, we were not the only dissatisfied customers in the restaurant. The table next to ours was also completely upset after their chicken wings had not arrived after 1 hour and 20 minutes.
This place is a completely disaster. The staff is completely unprofessional and incompetent. No one seemed to be in charge, or know what was going on, or when the food would be ready, or what beers they had, or anything. Save yourself a bad incident and go to the complete opposite customer service experience at Louisiana Purchase.

“Good mountain trout”
Reviewed 25 November 2007

We came here for the NC mountain trout and were not disappointed. Nothing fancy: grilled without any extra sauces, etc. so the fresh trout flavor came through. $15 plate included 2 side dishes. Atmosphere is very casual. Wait staff was all young, attractive, accommodating and friendly. Cafe also has a sports pizza bar and a bakery, ice cream parlor.
