Roland's has not atmosphere. The BBQ is among the best I've ever had in eastern NC. Relatives would go there to buy it to take it home when they would leave after a visit. But don't limit yourself to just BBQ. The seafood is quite good - yes, it's fried - the local way. The seafood is also local. If you're in luck, the softshell crab plate is outstanding - two fried crabs (you eat the ENTIRE crab) and two sides for about $11.99. In Charleston you would pay that much in a restaurant for one soft crab with no sides or anything else - just the crab. And you'll have the satisfaction of knowing you're eating the real thing. The sides are really "soul food" style. And the fried chicken isn't bad either. A trip to Beaufort without a stop at Roland's is a sin. It's off the beaten path, but ask a local. They all eat there.
