“Go for a drink and the view....... eat elsewhere.”
Reviewed 16 August 2014

Drinks and sitting outside are the keys to a good visit here. Service is poor at best, if you have a family or trying to have a meal don't be in a rush. The food is bland at best. No flavor on anything. The shrimp and grits, were literally just that. Not one drop of seasoning on the shrimp.

We also tried the black beans and rice (with sausage and shrimp) and I don't think there was hint of salt, pepper, old bay, ANYTHING on the dish to add any flavor. It looked decent, but zero flavor.

Will try elsewhere for a meal in the future.

“Shrimp and Grits, Baby!”
Reviewed 4 August 2014

My wife and I highly recommend this waterfront treasure! It was our first dining experience in Beaufort and we weren't disappointed. We both enjoyed the delicious shrimp and grits and we would definitely come again. We sat outside and it was so comfortable.

“Dyngus day on vacation”
Reviewed 30 July 2014

Went to the dockhouse for the view and entertainment with family. We go there every year for the same thing. We get the same serve every year. Sub-par! The server got our beers to us quick. Then when we ordered and ask for water with a lemon for the other members of the family... Well those came when our food came. We ordered hot wings and cheese sticks. By that time our beer was gone and had to eat hot wings and sipping from my son's water that came with no lemon. Like other reviews the location is great and really recommend it to others. Set your expections low and you will not be upset. Go when there is a live local band because they make it fun.

“Great location”
Reviewed 28 July 2014 via mobile

Good crab cakes, good cheese sticks, not so good oyster burger (oysters over cooked and chewy). Waitress forgot my beer. Table next to us had to ask to be served after waiting 10-15min. I think their amazing location keeps them open.

“Location, Location, Location”
Reviewed 23 July 2014

When visiting Beufort, NC you stroll through the picturesque and historic downtown area and walk along the waterfront boardwalk. Soon its time for lunch and you see the fairly large building housing The Dockhouse restaurant. Seated outside on the porch facing the water and the boardwalk, the view was lovely -- boats cruising by, folks preparing their boats for departure, even a glimpse of a wild horse on the island across the way. We opted for the fried shrimp and scallop basket and the fried oyster basket. It was a busy warm Saturday and our waitress did her best with what appeared to be short wait staff. The baskets arrived and the seafood was crisp, hot, and a nice portion in each. The shrimp, scallops, and oysters were all nice sized. The accompanying French fries were OK but not crisp like the seafood. This is not a fancy, white tablecloth and fine chef seafood. It is a place to enjoy with friends while having some decent, basic seafood along with the lovely view. All in all, a nice way to relax and spend a lunch hour or so in Beaufort.
