Monte Vista Hotel

We have stayed at this hotel a half dozen times in the last ten years and enjoyed it everytime. Since Sue and Barnie renovated it it has transformed into a delighful small town gem. The food is excellent and the new bar helps you to relax after a busy day in town. The staff is very accomadating and someone is always available for anything you need. Monte the hotel cat is so very sweet. We sat in the hall and played with her after she followed us to our room. It is in a prime location for shopping and dinning in Black Mountain and close to Lake Lure, Montreat and Asheville. It is the only place for me spend the night in Black Mountain...

Room Tip: Rooms on the front of the hotel offer a wonderful view and the corner rooms are a bit larger and bri...

Stayed there 3 days in August 2012 and loved the setting. The Monte Vista is a historic old hotel that's been fully renovated without losing it's charm. It's very clean and has a nice bar and dining area. The patios are also beautiful. The owners, Sue and Barnie, are friendly and helpful. One of them is always on duty. Best place we've stayed in Black Mountain and very convenient to downtown.

We stayed at the Monte Vista last week. The hotel has been redone beautifully. A few kinks still to work out maybe... Our room didn't get cleaned and we were unable to darken our room at night because of the light blinds and curtains. Other than that, it was a nice stay.

Our daughter had her wedding reception at the Monte Vista. Also, many members of the families and friends stayed there. I cannot begin to tell you what a wonderful experience this was. The staff was professional and wonderful to work with. Barney and Sue, the owners, are easy going and just like part of the family. All of the guests had so many kind things to say about their experience staying there and the reception itself. It is a great venue to have a wedding reception. Having no tv's was a blessing. Everyone visited with each other, saw the town, read, etc. It is a very relaxing, but VERY nice hotel. It is hard not to feel at home immediately. Again, it was a very reasonable venue for a wedding, We worked with Sue and their wedding planner, Elizabeth, beginning in February/March. They were SO helpful. We stayed over an extra day and had lunch and dinner there. It was fabulous. Would stay there again. Cannot say enough good things about The Monte Vista and its owners.

Room Tip: They are all good rooms. The only negative comment I heard was that in some rooms there was not a c...

A neighbor and I have just arrived home from a short arts/crafts shopping spree in the Black Mountain/Asheville area; we stayed overnight at the Monte Vista and found it an entirely pleasnat experience. Large, spotlessly clean room/bath, a beautifully cooked and presented breakfast (biscuits were outstanding!) with good fresh coffee--and even a complimentary tray of tea and chocolate-covered strawberries served us as we sat in the main lodge living room doing some evening reading! My friend and I agreed we would certainly return to this very pleasant place on future trips to Black Mountain.

A lot of work has gone into upgrading this Inn. The rooms are very clean, although not extra large, and the staff was very helpful.

Room Tip: The king rooms had much more room overall.

I contacted Sue via email about 2 months prior to our annual June business dinner. We set a time to meet and discuss specifics for the dinner. I am a foodie and expect excellent food for the people I am responsible for providing a nice meal too. She made notes and said she would get back to me asap, therefore allowing me some information gathering time. We finalized the plans and Sue did EVERYTHING she said she would and then some. We had impeccable service and excellent food. Not one complaint from 28 people. Kudos to Sue and her staff at Monte Vista. We will be back!
