Monte Vista Hotel
Reviewed 24 August 2014

A number of us stayed at the Monte Vista earlier this month. The beds were very comfortable indeed and all the rooms are of a superior quality. Great noises outside with the cicadas and railroad late at night. Breakfast was fairly minimal but what there was was of a good standard. One of our party was troubled though with spooky happenings. Footsteps along the corridor which stopped where she was standing around the corner browsing the book collection; no one there. This happened several times. Then something pressed in on the back of her neck while she was lying alone in bed. No one there...

Room Tip: If the railroad sound would keep you awake, I suggest a room away from the front of the hotel.

i recently had the pleasure of visiting North Carolina to visit my brothers, My daughter and grandson joined me. Staying at the Monte Vista was indeed a joy. The rooms were clean, nicely furnished, bed was very comfortable, a very pleasant experience. We had dinner there several nights and the food was delicious and very well priced..there was a piano player which added to the ambiance...lots of room for my grandson to enjoy.Overall a wonderful experience I would recommend to anyone....

We arrived in Black Mountain without any reservations. This was truly a gem. Our room was very clean. The bed was comfortable and this was a nice change from the usual chain hotels. My husband I also ate dinner at the restaurant, and the food was excellent. If you are going to Black Mountain, NC, I would recommend the Monte Vista. A clock and hair dryer would be nice additions to the room.

Room Tip: Some of the rooms do not have televisions. If this is a necessity you would need to inquire.

This place is very charming:-) the staff is so willing to go out of their way to accommodate. The food is to die for.... Especially the fried green tomatoes! Just love this place, and priced right too! We planned on staying one day, but stayed two because it was so wonderful!

The Monte Vista is a pretty cool hotel just a few hundred feet from downtown Black Mountain. You can easily walk to all the shops where you'll find some good food, bars, and quaint little shops. The room we stayed in had no clock, phone, or TV, but it was clean, the bed was comfortable, and the bathroom had a huge tub that my wife really enjoyed. There's a nice bar downstairs that has a few microbrews on tap and a good liquor selection. The "breakfast" was sparse, but was better than nothing. Yogurt with the option of fresh blueberries, strawberries, and granola. They also had bananas an muffins. Overall, we were impressed and we'll probably stay there if we go back to Black Mountain again.

Room Tip: If you want a TV, then make sure you ask for a newer room in the back.

Family vacation went awry and if not for Barney and Sue we would have had a miserable night. Walked into the hotel, music playing, people dancing, wonderful atmosphere and the nicest welcome from Barney. Had a few drinks in the taproom, dinner and then a great nights sleep Our family can't wait to visit the area again and stay in the Monte Vista. I highly recommend this establishment

I cannot say enough good things about The Monte Vista in Black Mountain. Sue and Barney have done a wonderful job bringing this fine old hotel/inn back to life. I stayed there twice last summer when bringing and retrieving my daughter at Camp Merri Mac. We stayed again this year and more improvements were made and it felt even better. There is a very nice feeling here. You have beautiful porches on the front of the hotel to sit and relax. There is a lovely patio area in the back. Each evening the bar opens for cocktails and The Palate serves dinner. We had a great lady wait on us Friday evening while enjoying live music. The inside lobby of the hotel has more places to sit and relax as well. There are lots of artist on exhibit in various areas of the hotel. Our rooms have always been very clean and comfortable and very reasonably priced. If you are a fan of Black Mountain you need to give The Monte Vista a try. You may even see Monte, the most awesome feline inn cat while you are there!
