We first visited the Veranda Café at least 15 years ago and they 'had us as loyal customers at Hello". The décor of very high ceilings promoting an airy open atmosphere, the red brick walls decorated with colorful umbrellas, and nostalgic hardwood floors will be reminiscent to baby boomers and older visitors of your childhood adventures to a special downtown trip, if you had behaved all week.

The menu features many tasty offerings updated with 'specials of the day', always at least a half dozen delicious hearty soups daily, abundant refreshing salads, a wide selection of satisfying sandwiches available grilled, deli style, or on wraps. Croissants, cranberry nut bread, marble rye, multigrain , ciabatta, and the always popular grilled pretzel roll are some of the choices for your culinary sandwich experience. A half sandwich and cup of one of the many delightful simmering soups is always an option for lighter fare.

My wife often enjoys the 'Kay's Special Chicken Salad and a side of 'southern caviar (marinated black-eyed pea salad) or Tossed Greek Salad topped with an ample portion of Oven-roasted chicken, while I often elect the Greek Chicken Gyro Wrap and always a 'bowl' of one of the numerous soups available every day.

Regardless of your palate's sensory pleasure zones there is a dining experience awaiting guaranteed to 'tickle your innards'! Daily magnificent bakery items will tantalize your buds and put the exclamation point on any lunch!!

My chosen title was true in that on our frequent visits to Black Mountain, NC we would always plan on driving from the Charlotte, NC Airport to ensure satisfying our Veranda craving on Friday or Saturday between 11am-3pm, as they are closed on Sundays and lunch only. We relocated from Florida to Black Mountain in 2015 and can now travel through all the tantalizing menu items at our leisure. Try it out and the family owners since 1996, Jeff and Palette, will 'treat you even better than family!! Relax, savor, enjoy!

PS: There is a pet friendly outdoor deck for your special furry friend to accompany you.

Based on the good reviews, we decided to stop here for lunch on a day trip to Black Mountain and weren't disappointed. I had the ham and cheese melt while my husband had the turkey cranberry relish sandwiches and we shared. They were both delicious! Our friends enjoyed their sandwiches too. Service was prompt even though it was pretty crowded. A new favorite place to eat here!

We were a little early as we went there at 10-30 AM. We were seated & had to wait till 11 AM to order. We ordered a sandwich to take out & enjoyed their curly fries. We also had some soft drinks. The service was good.

Although we appreciate all reviews, we feel this one is an error. Our hours are 11:00-3:00 pm. We do seat guest early an offer drinks but the kitchen never opens before 11:00

That being said we do not have a fryer or curly fries. Please try us again at 119 Cherry St.

The Veranda is special lunch spot whenever we visit Black Mountain. A lunch only eatery they do an excellent job with an eclectic menu of sandwiches (hot, cold and wraps) and salads. My husband has been savoring their Muffuletta - he was thrilled with this tantalizing treat. My favorite is the Turkey, Berry, Brie- grilled that is scrumptious. This is a favorite eatery for visitors and locals so it can be crowded and with a wait list. Arriving after 1:00pm and their rush hour, we were seated quickly. We highly recommend the Veranda.

Very busy restaurant, put name on list and waited maybe 5-7 minutes. Lovely people run it, very attentive. I had soup and salad, my husband had a German pretzel bread sandwich with ham, smoked Gouda, spicy mustard and crispy onions, and bacon. He said the best sandwich he ever had. You must try it when you go. We’ll surely go back.
