I loved staying at this B&B. The owners are very accommodating and helpful. Our car needed a repair and they helped us arrange it. The food was incredible (fresh fruit daily! They also met my dietary preferences and made gluten free waffles just for me!). It's walking distance to Black Mountain shopping and dining and the garden out back is magical. This is the real deal. I felt very comfortable and welcomed.

An old friend and I met in Black Mountain for a weekend of shopping, visiting galleries and catching up since the last time we'd seen each other. We were pleasantly surprised to find that the Arbor House offered lots of places to relax and chat....a lovely front patio and a beautiful deck overlooking a serene and picturesque lake and beautiful gardens. The owners, Carolyn and Dave, have created a B & B that is welcoming and very comfortable. We were within walking distance of the center of Black Mountain....and close enough to major highways so that getting to Asheville was a breeze. Breakfast was delicious and our every need was anticipated. I would definitely consider another visit to this wonderful B & B.

Well, Carolyn didn't serve baby ducks for breakfast, but there they were -- running along behind their mallard mother -- while we ate on the deck that overlooks the large pond. Lovely china, elegant stemware, a nappy white tablecloth (that Carolyn made; she is a woman of many talents!), and a pretty cozy on the teapot set off the really wonderful breakfast menu. Each meal included fresh fruit and/or a yogurt parfait, juice, and a generous main course; we had waffles, eggs and grits and biscuits, french toast and sausage. We stayed three nights upstairs in the Lookout room, which overlooks the pond, and we were the only guests in the house during our stay mid-week, early in the spring season. Dave showed us around when we arrived; they built the house in 2004 I believe, and it looks just about brand new. Carolyn (an accomplished artist) decorated the four rooms, all of which are very spacious, well-appointed and private. Our room upstairs was separated from the other room on that floor by quite a stretch of hallway. One of the first-floor rooms is just off the living room; the other is off of the dining room. Lookout is under the eaves, so to speak, very cozy but spacious with a seating area for a small sofa, leather ottoman and easy chair. There is a small covered balcony, which was a very nice place to start or end the day. The king bed was very comfortable, and the nearby cupboards held lots of extra pillows and blankets should you need them. The bathroom had a whirlpool tub (which we didn't use) and a glass shower enclosure. I used the hairdryer and bath products that were provided (citrus from Trader Joe's). Carolyn and Dave's own house is connected to the bed&breakfast through the kitchen. A delightful pantry area for guests between the kitchen and the dining room holds a refrigerator stocked with beverages, a Bose radio/cd player with a stack of CDs, coffee, tea, and the chocolate chip cookies that Dave makes every day. There is a good supply of books/cds/movies for guest use, as well as a whole table in the living room that has pamphlets, books, maps and other tourist information. If all this wasn't enough, Arbor House is heaven for bird-watchers and gardeners like us. Every morning, we awoke to bird song from the trees and shrubs in the garden. There is a lawn area complete with arbor and glider swing, surrounded by lush perennial gardens. A short stone path leads you to the pond and a walking trail (1/2 mile around) where you can get a close-up view of the baby ducks. Peace reigns at Arbor House! And this is probably one of the nicest b&bs we have ever visited. Thank you, Carolyn and Dave, for taking such good care of us. And "hi" to Natalie, too!

Carolyn's bountiful breakfasts provide an excellent start to each day... the blueberry French toast is fabulous! Although conveniently located within walking distance of downtown shops and restaurants, this well-designed Arts & Crafts style house provides a feeling of privacy in a picturesque setting. I felt pampered by all the thoughtful touches. Myriad books and first-hand suggestions from Carolyn helped us define our hiking plans and we enjoyed a gorgeous day on the beautiful Graybeard Trail. Walking sticks by the door are for guest use. If you are looking for an old B&B with early-grandma style, this is not it. The comfortable contemporary decor makes this a relaxing retreat; it was the perfect place to celebrate an anniversary.

Room Tip: The Lookout Room features a private balcony overlooking the lake, mountains, and sunsets.

My wife and daughters and I recently spent several days at the Arbor House Bed and Breakfast in Black Mountain. I have always tended to take on-line reviews with a "grain-of-salt" (and this is the first time I have ever written one) so I did not know what to expect but the whole experience was amazing. Carolyn and Dave were the perfect hosts. All of the rooms (we ended up staying in 3 out of 4 of them) were beautifully decorated and extremely comfortable and to that you have to add in the beauty of the location. The breakfasts were delicious. The web site was not entirely clear but Wi-Fi is available and free.

Overall the stay was wonderful.

My 16-year-old daughter and I spent a weekend at the Arbor House in the Pinnacle Room- perfect for the two of us as the king bed could be separated into twin beds. Beautifully decorated in blue and white with plenty of morning light, spacious modern bathroom with shower, delicious breakfasts next to the dining room fireplace prepared by innkeepers Carolyn and Dave. We had a wonderful time recharging at this b&b.Springtime must be beautiful when Carolyn's garden is in bloom, and we hope to return to see it!

My boyfriend and I only stayed here for one night, but it was great! We booked the Lookout Room and it was perfect - the view was beautiful, the room was huge and had a very relaxing feel to it. And the location of the B&B is great. We were within walking distance of downtown, which was perfect for visiting the cute, local shops and restaurants. We also came on a great weekend because there was a Christmas parade downtown, and at night they had luminaries set up all around the lake that the B&B is set on - gorgeous!
Carolyn and Dave were very welcoming and friendly. We both felt right at home, and loved every bit of our stay. The breakfast was delicious, the house was very clean and comfortable, and the convenience of it's location is awesome. I can definitely say that I plan on staying here on my next trip up to the mountains!
