“Nice quiet, relaxing stay”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 July 2013

We stayed at Chetola in a one bedroom condo unit using our Disney Timeshare exchange. We enjoyed the unit, beds very comfy, good kitchen, nice porch. We even used the fireplace twice, even in July it was cool enough. Restaurant and pub were good, nice staff. My only complaint would be the carpets needed to be replaced or cleaned in our unit, they were a bit dirty. Also, because no housecleaning is provided for the week, some cleaning supplies and a vacuum would have been helpful. Otherwise, we enjoyed our stay and love the Blowing Rock area.

We won't be back -- you can get a great cabin in the mountains for the same price.
We came for dinner and the friendly hostess Kaitlyn took us to the front desk so we could make hotel reservations -- the clerks ignored her, so she awkwardly left us there to be helped by them -- but both front desk clerks ignored us -- they both got on the phone, then one hung up & immediately left without looking our way, and the other one, Lamont, never acknowledged us either -- he stayed on the phone, ignoring us right in front of him -- we waited & waited -- he never acknowledged us -- we could tell he wasn't interested in us -- and it extinguished our interest in staying there. It was a reflection of what kind of place it was.
So we decided to stay somewhere else -- instead we got a great cabin in the mountains for the same price.
Pouring rain and all guests were soaked -- no umbrellas were available at either restaurant, bar or front desk.
With the poor service and it being outdated, although being a beautiful venue -- we will not be back -- it does not meet standards of first class facility.

We found this resort on trip advisor and were so glad that we did! From our first phone contact, Zac helped us find the best room for us, and upon arrival, gave us excellent advice in dining and waterfall treks. Zac made our trip twice as great as it would have been. Thanks, Zac!

There are 3 places to stay - the inn, which is for couples without kids, the hotel-ish area (where we stayed), and condos. The inn and hotel include an incredible breakfast buffet, with an omelet station and a wonderful variety that changed daily. We also ate dinner in the same restaurant, Timberlakes (formerly called the Manor House) and it was excellent! I had a delicious trout dish, and the kids had their own menu to choose from.

The grounds are kept beautifully, it is an easy walk to the outlet mall, and a short walk to downtown. Kids activities take place daily and the pool, spa, and workout areas are very nice.

We will definitely return as this could be an excellent venue for a family reunion!

Room Tip: Even numbered rooms face the lake, with the odd numbers facing up the mountain to the parking lot.

This was our first visit to Cetola and our check-in was a disaster. I walked into the reception office to check-in. Both front desk agents were on the phone and while they were aware of my presence didn't look up or indicate they knew I was waiting. After waiting a long while one agent hung up the phone and without a greeting or smile, said, "what can i do for you"?. After the check-in was complete, I was given a map to the condo. I said I wasn't familiar with the property and needed specific directions. His curt answer was, I'm showing you Maam". Not a enjoy your visit, or if you need anything let us know, nothing of welcome. We couldn't find the condo and this time my daughter went into the office and the same agent looked at her and his greeting was, "yep." She insisted he personally take us to the condo. He took us to a row of condos and waved in a general direction and left us to find Magnola condo. We were two adults and three children, ages 2, 13 and 15. We originally booked Magnolia, a one floor condo. however, we arrived in the evening after driving a good distance and there was no hot water for showers. We were given an upgrade and moved to Boxwood which was a spacious two story condo, new and well furnished, again, no hot water and no ice in the freezer and they were lacking in a variety of pots. The next morning the hot water was fixed and a large bag of ice was delivered and we were told it would take about 12 hours for the ice machine to kick in. The rooms in Boxwood were comfortable and there were many dvd's, games and towels. We had to do our own laundry and cleaning. Our condo had a patio with table and chairs and overlooked beautiful trees and a running stream. While we appreciated the upgrade and the attempts to rectify things, we were very disappointed that the acting manager didn't apologize to us and her manner when I told her about our check-in was unsympathetic and her reply was," I'll speak to the agent."
We went to breakfast at the lodge the next morning and the service by Jennifer was amazing. Nothing was too much and her demeaner was so friendly, obliging yet professional. We subsequently were served by another, Alex and she was wonderful as well. We booked spa treatments and my daughter who is a massage therapist requested an experienced therapist in deep tissue massage. When she arrived she was told that particular therapist had to leave. We asked why we weren't told and given the option to rebook. My daughter had her massage which she said was very relaxing but definitely not deep tissue massage. Our bill was adjusted by 25% . I have since received a card from the general manager apologizing and indicating she would see our complaints and compliments would reach the appropriate person. The grounds are beautiful, gorgeous, truly. While we had quite a few problems, we are going to give Chetola another chance/visit for Thanksgiving. I'll keep you posted after that visit.

I should start by saying that Chetola Resort is beautiful and that the service is efficient and friendly. We rented a 2 BR condo unit which was beautifully decorated, had a full kitchen, modern bathrooms, Wi-Fi and 3 TVs. The Chetola Resort complex is quite large. It features a fine-dining restaurant, an indoor pool, spa and a stocked lake. The fishing was quite good and kept my family entertained for hours. Moses Cone Park is directly behind the resort and there are trails that lead from the resort into the park. The resort also adjoins the Tanger Outlet mall and guests can walk directly onto the mall property from the resort. There is a children's camp which my 6 y.o. enjoyed.

Boone and Blowing Rock have many antique stores and stores featuring hand crafted items. There are many charming places to eat and both towns are great for strolling. Blowing Rock has a park with a playground and basketball courts which my son enjoyed.

The condo unit has sheets, towels, toilet paper, paper towels, trash bags, and dish soap. Everything else, you need to provide. There are several Walmart stores in the area which one should visit prior to check in so that your condo is fully stocked during your stay. The unit has a picnic table and grill in the back yard.

The down side for us was that the amenities were far from the condo units. The complex features many buildings which are located up and down hills. From our unit, it was about a mile to the main buildings and lake. If you have kids and are looking to meet other families so that your kids have playmates (and you can relax),you won't find that here. There are many townhouse type buildings and our section was virtually empty for most of the week we were here. In other words, you need to make your own fun. It is particularly difficult for teens as there is nowhere for them to congregate (perhaps on purpose?). There is no basketball court and they no longer have a game room with a pool table and arcade games, which they used to have. We have been spoiled by other places we have visited that are not nearly as upscale, but which are conducive to more spontaneous kids' activities and getting to know other guests.

Room Tip: Ask questions prior to booking regarding where your unit will be located relative to the lake and am...

First off this resort is absolutely gorgeous!! My family decided to host our reunion at the resort this year through a travel agent. Everyone was friendly upon arrival but i was not happy with the room. We were in a room with no balcony and the windows did not open. Who wants to stay in the mountains and not be able to enjoy that beuatiful mountain air. I immediately called the front office and they said they were sold out. I couldnt believe that the entire resort was sold out. So i called later and "pretend" to be a new guest looking to book for the weekend and was told they had "plenty of condos available". After hearing this i was very upset beacause of what i was told earlier. after a brief conversation the gentlemen(thomas i believe) told me i could book a condo at the group rate, i asked him to create another reservation for me and i would move in the morning because i didnt want to move this late at night. He then "gauranteed" that i would have a a condo the next day. But when i went to the front desk i was told that there was no reservation for a condo under my name and the rate was now higher than what i was told last night. Carol could tell i was a little upset and told me she could make the reservation for me and would discuss the rate with her manager. When i returned from breakfast carol had everything ready and at the group rate. She was a big help!! The condo was perfect, we had a balcony, private entrance, full kitchen ...THE WORKS!!
Our family dinner was delicious and the service was great!'

overall great stay but be sure to give guest all options- people are willing to pay!!!

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a balcony...not all rooms have them..

My sisters and I stayed here for almost a week and loved every minute. The resort is beautiful. We really enjoyed walking the winding path around the lake on our way to town - about a 15 minute walk. The rooms are large and very comfortable, and the breakfast buffet is amazing. The indoor pool and hot tub were perfect for relaxing in the afternoons and evenings. The staff was so friendly and helpful. I can't wait to go back!
