“Traded for a great weekend!”
Reviewed 3 September 2013 via mobile

We traded our Marriott for Blowing Rock and loved it. We have traveled enough to know that places like these, small town, limited employees, can't compete with Marriott. In that respect, this place was great!
While in the hot tub a lady told us that our building , the Azalea, was where the timeshare people stayed.."they did those right." Well whatever that meant exactly we did not know. Ours was ok. Clean. They tried to update the place with granite countertops but it was still old. Parquet floors. Worn carpet. But, again, it was the location that really made the weekend. And the grounds were beautiful to come home to.

Chetola Resort is a beautifully landscaped property that offers accommodations in the Lodge, and in condominiums. It also has an excellent restaurant and bar with full service options. We stayed in a hillside Lodge room, without a view, but it was clean and spacious, with TV, internet, refrigerator and coffee maker. Others in our party stayed in condominiums, all of which were unique and beautifully furnished, with stunning views of the wooded area surrounding them. The Lodge is the location of several amenities: pool, hot-tub, sauna, fitness center and a beautiful patio also accessible from the restaurant. All the staff I encountered were attentive and went out of their way to make us happy and comfortable. We took advantage of the shopping outlet center next door to the resort, and we took easy and strenuous hikes in local areas and the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Room Tip: On my next visit I would choose a lake view room, over a hillside room.

What a wonderful experience we had at Chetola! We ate at the Timberlake Lodge and had an awesome dinner of salmon, cooked perfectly. My husband and I split a salad which was more than ample. The weather was awesome and so were our accommodations at Juniper 2. We love visiting the mountains and had such an enjoyable time

this 1 BR/1 Bath condo was badly in need of new furnishings, especially the recliners. I could tell that
the plumbing fixtures were spec, the front door and glass door needing repair as well as the locks for front/rear entrance doors. The sheets were so thin, they must have come over on the Mayflower and the televisions were 1990 s style tube type/not even flat screen. The microwave was hard to operate, no
turntable. One could tell from the overall construction of the condos exteriors that they were built for 20 years, then blight and rebuild. The food and beverages were overpriced for their quality but the food was alright at Timberlakes. Waiters were not very good at taking drink orders from the outside eating areas forcing patrons to go to the bar and return to a table that may have been taken by someone else. The indoor pool heating did not work well while we were there, water very cold and the sauna was forever having to heat it up to get to a proper temp. The whirl pool was alright, spa for massages very pricey. The landscaping and exterior of the facility was apparently where the company put their money and it was very pretty, the best part of the stay we had.

Room Tip: Since this was a one time rental for us, we could not comment on this question or tip.

I assumed that the "Bob Timberlake Inn" would be a little "upscale". We stayed in the one bedroom suite, and although the room was big, and the furniture was fantastic, my overall feeling was that it was not what I expected of the "Bob Timberlake" name. The bathroom was dated, and the plastic signs screwed into the wall to tell you how to operate the Jacuzzi tub seemed tacky. Turn down bed service was not offered---and I expected it to be. The real issue I had was when we went down to the Inn to eat. Although there were empty tables, I was told we could not be seated because "only three servers showed up for work"....Granted, we did not have reservations (and they are suggested)....but, come on....we had to leave the property to eat!

This was the second time we stayed at Chetola Mountain Resort. The lake is beautiful and the grounds are immaculate. We rented a one bedroom condo and found it to be a comfortable place to relax. The condo we rented had a bear theme. We counted at least 50 bears in the condo.

Like some privately owned condos, this one needed some upgrades. However this is better than a hotel room any day. Our only complaint was the mattress. We didn't always sleep well. We are used to a memory foam mattress. Chetola is a reasonable value. If you reserve two nights, the third night is free. Staying at Chetola, one feels safe. They have their own security and staff an entrance guard house 24/7. A permit is required of all guests to enter the resort. We have friends that rented a two bedroom condo and found that their condo was really nice. It had granite counters, mini bar and sunken living room.

Bob Timberlake Restaurant on site is very good. The ribs I had were some of the best ribs I've had in a long time. The cabbage and potatoes were also very good. The service was excellent.
On rainy nights, many in the resort decide to eat in. Reservations are suggested for dinner.

We went to Chetola to celebrate our 44th wedding anniversary. Our stay was wonderful. While my wife spent time getting a massage and a facial, I went on a trout fishing trip guided by Ryan Dunne. Ryan is one of the resort sponsored Orvis guides. The stream we fished was in a remote area of northern NC. It was just a great day on the creek. The guide knew what he was doing. He was very professional and put me on some truly trophy fish. I learned a lot and I appreciated the care that was given to the handling and revival of each fish. All-in-all, we had a wonderful time and plan on returning.

Have been going to Chetola for several years. Most of the time stayed in the lodge rooms, a few times in the condo units. Stayed in condo this year. Though the surrounding area is wonderful (hiking, jogging, spa, workout room, paddleboats, etc) had a number of issues with ammenities. Water heater at condo died first night there. Repairmen tried to say it was a circuit breaker, took a full 24 hours to figure out issue and fix. Then encountered similar issue with hot tub. Employees turned on and off unit several times as a "fix". Found out later that there were more serious problems with the hot tub that would not be fixed until later in the year. Kingsize bed in room was horribly uncomfortable, had to sleep on couch 2 nights. Found out later that bed was scheduled to be replaced. Staff could have been more transparent about issues upfront. Hope this lodge is not showing signs of sliding back in quality, but evidence this trip appears so. They did comp one night stay due to troubles, would have rather had better quality stay.
