“Very Dissapointed!”
Reviewed 28 November 2011

From the initial un-friendly check-in to the check out our stay was totally dissapointing. We stayed at the old Inn before it closed and so anxiously followed and awaited it's new opening. Upon arrival the girl at the front desk was very unaccomadating. We were early and wanted a place to change clothes as there had been a 30 degree drop in temperature. 5 hours later...4:30pm...when our room was finally ready it had a very bad odor and was extremely outdated. We realize it is an old hotel...we prefer older historic properties but this was so musty and cheaply done. The bar was very dissapointing. We had hoped for a fun evening with drinks, bar food type snacks and a fun bartender only to be told they only had "fine dining"....so we ended up only having one drink and leaving. The Thanksgiving buffet was pricey but we had high expectations and the food was very good. Unfortunately we were told when we were seates to "be mindful of our time and not stay longer than 1 hour as they were booked solid". We spend 120.00 for 2 people for lunch so I think we should have been able to stay as long as we wanted. As far as gourmet breakfast...it was an extremely limited menu..not even the selections you would find at a Hampton Inn with the free buffet. Overall it was dissapointing.

We chose this hotel as an alternative to a chain. Overall the place was fine and the room adequate. The place is showing its age a bit. My main gripe was that we paid more to stay here with the promise of a made to order breakfast. We got to the dining room around 9:35 am and there were several other guests there also. The waitress told us we missed breakfast and the cook had already left. She suggested a place in town. Later when we checked out the manager was sorry and offered to try to find someone to make us some toast or something. She did not offer any reduction in rate as compensation so I ended up buying food in town. Also, the restaurant has a somewhat exotic and expensive menu.

The food is incredible. The staff is wonderful..... While child friendly, I believe this to be more of a couples hotel... the history is intriguing....

All in all, excellent value for the money spent. We will definitely be back.

Room Tip: Be sure to get a Balcony as the views were wonderful in the fall. Would be any time of year.

I wanted to like this property as it is a beautiful historic hotel across from the Blowing Rock but during our one night stay we experienced several problems that all point to a lack of organization. The worst issue was with the breakfast service. It took 30 minutes just to receive coffee and juice. Our breakfast took another 30 minutes to arrive. We noticed that although all our neighbors were complaining about their waits they had arrived considerably later than we did yet received their food before us. We heard the wait staff apologize to everyone but there did seem to be a lack of communication amongst the servers taking place. We lost a tremendous amount of time at breakfast which impacted what we were able to accomplish during the day. There was a complimentary newspaper delivered to each room however it was the paper for the previous day! Very odd...When we returned from the breakfast ordeal our room was wide open but empty. We found the maid down the hall working on another room. She was in the middle of freshening up our room and others. She did not realize that we were checking out and had already made our bed etc. On a positive note the front desk was courteous and helpful . There is live piano music at the entrance to the hotel in the evening.

A wonderful place to stay! Friendly service greats everyone at this beautifully restored, historic landmark. One gets the feeling of how our great-grandparents might have lived well over a century ago. The various rooms comprising the Green Park’s lobby, dining and library areas are steeped in reflections of its history, from presidents to movie stars like Marilyn Monroe and Henry Fonda. Even Annie Oakley is said to have demonstrated her marksmanship prowess in competitions on the grounds.
My room was spacious and came with many modern appointments including a large flat- screen TV, comfortable bed with sumptuous pillows and linens. A large balcony framed a picturesque view of the scenic Blue Ridge Mountains. A full, made-to-order breakfast comes with the room. The evening dining experience wonderful, great chef, fine foods and broad array of exciting selections.
I had never been to Blowing Rock. It’s a beautiful, historic village with many things "to do" and with mountain and valley vistas stretched in all directions. I only wish I had budgeted for more than a one-day stay. It’s well worth a return trip for a long weekend or maybe even a week.

This is a beautiful white Inn. Our room was huge with a walk-in closet. The food was very good. Dinner was expensive, but well worth it.

We were looking for a place to stay that wasn't a cookie cutter property and boy did we find it! If you want even floors and plumb door frames, look elsewhere. The Inn has been refurbished and is elegant. The lobby takes you back in time and the elevator is a real trip. Front desk gentleman was very polite and helpful. He offered to get our luggage moved upstairs but with a luggage cart right there, we opted to do it ourselves. That was a mistake as we had to wheel it down a ramp on the way to our second floor room. Almost a disaster, but we recovered with no points for style or grace. The room was huge, the bathroom cozy but all were clean and the beds, complete with really nice linens, were very comfortable. We could have used a small refrigerator but it was cold enough at night to leave drinks on the balcony. There is only one ice machine and it is on the main floor.

Breakfast is included with the room and is made to order. Choices include eggs, waffles, french toast, oatmeal, bacon, sausage, red potatoes and toast. The server was very pleasant and on the ball with the coffee pot or fresh water.

The bar has been beautifully restored and is fully stocked. Bartender is a grad student at the university and very friendly without being intrusive. We didn't eat dinner at the restaurant so can't comment on that.

All in all a delightful three night get-away and if we travel that way again will definitely stay at Green Park. The renovations aren't yet complete so we'll be interested to see the progress that has been made.
