“Understaffed and no information from staff”
Reviewed 23 July 2014 via mobile

We stayed here with a group on a bus trip. It is a large quiet property. The front desk was unable to give us the TV channels, unable to tell us merchant store hours of the quaint mountain town shops, unable to keep the coffee replenished in the morning. There is no signage directing guests where the breakfast is served. There is a sign that stayed up saying "Back in 5 minutes" or "Please ring bell for assistance". No one answered the bell. These are just a few observations. Our linens did not Smell clean. It may have been the sham, but there was an odor. The room had very nice toiletry supplies. There was no refrigerator or microwave in our room, but there was coffee service. Breakfast is served downstairs and there is no sign telling where to eat. It is very different. Cottage cheese, canned fruit, dry scrambled eggs with cheese, sausage links, biscuits. The drinks were not replenished. Very lacking!

Dear Nancy, I'm so glad you decided to write! I'm delighted you thought our hotel was quiet and large enough to take care of everyone in your group. We have a beautiful site for tour groups, with plenty of space for bus parking, a 1-block walk to downtown, and 46 rooms with 2 beds. Our toiletries are from Gilchrist & Soames, and our guests love their fragrance and design.
I have researched the staff members who worked on the evening of your stay. My Front Desk Manager and another Front Desk associate were on duty. They both told me that they answered questions about our TV channels--our channel listing is in the in-room notebook placed in every guest room. They also told me that they both looked online that evening and gave guests information about store hours, which is a very common practice for my staff. (Our employees love to help people--that's a part of getting the job and keeping the job!)
I apologize for inadequate signage on the Ground floor. We had just painted that area, and we took down the signs during this project. New permanent signage will be up as soon as we complete the project. In the interim, we have temporary signage on the walls.
I'm surprised about our coffee service. We offer coffee both during breakfast and in the lobby until 5:00pm, and every room has a coffee maker and supplies. Sometimes our guests find it difficult to wait for our Front Desk associates to help another guest. We try hard to take care of the needs of each and every guest who stays at the Meadowbrook. When no one answered the bell, our staff member may have been making coffee for the lobby or taking extra towels to a guest. I apologize for your wait for getting the service you wanted.
If there were a problem with your linens, my staff would have been happy to help you. We are all trained to make beds and to assist guests with their requests. At our hotel, a staff member is there 24 hours a day to take care of our guests' needs.
Thank you so much for your comments. I'll be sharing them with my management team. I hope that you enjoyed the remainder of your bus tour and your time in the High Country!

We stayed in the suite with the private swimming pool. There were extra towels which was very nice. The room was located in the annex. It was quiet, clean and the warm private pool amazing. Also in the room is an extra large jacuzzi style bath tub. Very nice. Only tip- hotel should change the stained ceiling tiles in the bathroom.

The "yuck" was a large water spot overhead in shower! Why rent that room before fixing? Clean and comfortable room. Breakfast was above average. Everything else was wonderful and it is a great location. Pretty landscaping.

Dear Mary, thank you so much for your kind comments about our property! I'm glad you liked the cleanliness standard that we set. That means a lot to us!
I'm also happy that you thought our rooms are comfortable. Our mattresses are made for us in Charleston, and our rooms are quite a bit bigger than those in most hotels.
I wish you had contacted the Front Desk to take care of the water spot you mentioned. Many of our bathrooms have suspended ceilings, and sometimes the ceiling tiles can get splashed and develop a water spot. Replacing that tile would have taken us just a few moments. However, I apologize that we did not catch this on our room inspection prior to your check-in.
Our landscaping is pretty, isn't it? I'm glad you enjoyed your visit! Thank you for staying at the Meadowbrook!

Very clean rooms, hotel staff was very friendly. Quick and easy check in. We enjoyed the complimentary coffee in the lobby and the breakfast was very good. We would stay again if we ever passed through the area.

We stayed for two nights, while snow tubing. The gentleman at the desk was very helpful. The pool and rooms were very clean. Wi-Fi was available. Coffee pot was NOT in the bathroom! Thank you for that.

Last minute get away to mountains to avoid hurricane Arthur! Clean room and walking distance to downtown blowing rock. Indoor pool was great! The breakfast was the only downside, canned fruit and cottage cheese, styrofoam plates and plastic utensils:( otherwise a great stay, showers great and high shampoos and soaps, the towels at the pool were a bit small and flimsy you need 3-4 to dry off one person. The pool area was very clean and our room and bathroom were spotless!

Room Tip: We were on the first floor because it was last minute, but it was not noisy and did not smell of chl...

My husband and I along with our two small girls just visited for a short three-night vacation in Blowing Rock. We absolutely loved the Meadowbrook Inn and Suites! The room was very clean and spacious. The pool was gorgeous. The beds were comfortable. I appreciate the little things like being given extra towels willingly, having plenty of clean towels at the pool, having plumbing that works well, etc. Meadowbrook had all of these and more. It was charming and the staff was really friendly and very nice to our little girls. We were able to easily walk downtown. I can't say enough good things. We will definitely return next year--probably for an entire week. Thank you for making our vacation a great one!
