“Not the best choice in Blowing Rock”
Reviewed 11 March 2008

The pictures make this inn look much nicer than it is. The rooms are very small, smaller than a standard hotel room. They have tried to redecorate the rooms, but this inn still does not represent a good value for the money. We first were given room 101 which was next to the street and we could hear the cars going buy. We moved to a suite, which provided a bigger bathroom and more room. The big Jacuzzi tub looked very inviting until we realized the hot water ran out before the tub was completely filled. The new curtains they put in cover up the AC/HEAT unit when they are closed, presenting a problem of choosing between privacy or effective use of the air unit. A more appropriate price for this motel-style inn would be around $70, half the price we paid.

  • Liked — The coffee at breakfast was very good
  • Disliked — Running out of hot water, lack of privacy to outdoor parking lot

My husband and I with another couple stayed here for Mitford Days in one of the suites. We had two nice bedrooms, a small but very nice kitchen and living room. The suite had been updated since the reviews just as the management had explained. It was quiet, reasonably priced, and clean. We could walk to town with ease and had a great time! There are bench swings and an outside porch with table to eat. We ate at Crippens and the Gamekeeper...both great!

My mom & I spent 3 nights at the Ridgeway Inn while in Blowing Rock for the Mitford Days Festival. We had an upstairs room with 2 queen beds. Mom has back trouble due to osteoporosis so the bed was too hard for her. She compensated with lots of pillows. Also, the mattresses are very squeaky/creaky, but mine was comfy once I was settled.

Everything is recently renovated so very neat and clean. Most of the furniture is old but well cared for, adding to the ambiance. The mini-fridge and microwave were handy.

Housekeeping was very ambitious and got to our room before 10 a.m. each morning. The continental breakfast was the same each day -- boxed cereal, 2 kinds of muffins, bagels, packaged danish, fresh cut mixed melon/fruit, tea, coffee, juice and milk. Breakfast service starts at 7:30 a.m. but on Saturday, the building was locked and no one showed up until nearly 8:00 a.m. The desk clerk gave no explanation or apology.

A public computer is available in a niche in the eating area. The connection was always good and I was allowed free printouts for the couple e-mails I wanted to keep.

The tight parking was our only concern. The buildings make a large U with parking along the inside. And big vehicles make it a challenge to navigate in and out, but we did okay. Ridgeway is right around the corner from Main Street Blowing Rock, so we easily walked to almost everything we wanted to see and do.

Even with 2 beds, the room would be most comfortable for 2 people. There is a small round table if you want to 'eat in', two comfortable small padded chairs. The TV is hidden in a large upright cabinet.

  • Liked — Its overall charm and convenience
  • Disliked — the close-quarters parking

After many searches of inns in the Western North Carolina mountian area, we chose Blowing Rock to base ourselves while we explored the area. We stayed at the Ridgeway Inn, one of the newly remodeled Village Inns of Blowing Rock .... what a delightful place. It was one of the original 1950 style motels at the corner of Main street and Hwy 221. The present owner had one of the best builders in the area help restore and rebuild these charming inns. Our suite was well furnished, comfortable with a full kitchen and loft bedroom. We could walk to the center of Main street for breakfast(the inn offers a meager contenital breakfast, we splurged on eggs benedict at the Village Cafe) and dinner. The side walks roll up at 9PM so don't expect to find any night life...just great smelling mountian air and safe walking sidewalks.Everyone in town is so friendly. Try the Village Cafe for breakfast. For dinner...The Crippens Inn is outstanding. This area is family friendly too, we saw all ages gathering for a Highland Drum and Pipe concert in the village park. This is a peaceful lovely piece of America. Not easy to get to, but worth the trip.

  • Liked — Location and charming atmosphere
  • Disliked — Bed was too hard and awful pillows.

Riding the Blue Ridge Parkway on our motorcycles in May meant we may have to make emergency stops due to rain....thank the rain gods for this stop. Blowing Rock is a great little town that we never would have visited, and the Ridgeway Inn (which must have just finished their renovations) was the perfect spot. We had a lovely, cozy (but small), double room, with the most comfortable, luxurious bedding. We enjoyed the complimentary wine and cheese hour and then, on the recommendation of the Inn Keeper, had dinner at the Six Pence pub (great food and martinis!)
Thanks to the Inn Keeper for going the extra mile and allowing us to park our bikes under the porch, out of the rain!

Great location!
However, they only change the sheets every 3 days, and parking is a nightmare.
Would I stay here again?
Only if they paid me!

Thrilled it was sold. A motel from the 50's era, much was accomplished with the finery in place. Fabulous but with problems. Such location hopefully the new owners will let the river flow with less neurosis. Framed Paul Newman on the bathroom wall and a Bob Timberlake gallery adjacent.
