A wonderful getaway in the North Carolina mountains.
Extremely friendly and accommodating staff, charming quarters and innovative cuisine utilizing local produce.
Close to town, local attractions and shopping, yet secluded.
Easy access to outdoor recreational activities.
At 3,990 feet above sea level, the air is crisp and the views breathtaking.
Highly recommended for those seeking genteel service in a tranquil setting.

My wife and I are avid B&Br's. When we travel, we typically try not to stay at the traditional, mundane motels or hotels, and so we usually opt for unique B&B's. We decided to head to Blowing Rock for a two day trip this November, took a look at Gideon Ridge's web site and decided to give it a whirl. We were amazed by this place... and it has quickly become one of our top five fave's of all time. When we arrived, the friendly and gracious gentlemen checking us in gave us a grand tour of this beautiful property (on top of a mountain), which had breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. He amazed us with his enormous breadth of knowledge about the property and the area. The main house includes nine unique rooms, a den/living room with an enormous wood burning fire place, a dining/breakfast room with beautiful views of the mountains, a lower level game room with pool table and TV, and an outdoor veranda with loungers and splendid views that rivaled nearly every other place we've stayed. Our host offered to carry all our bags to our room at the Cedar Cottage, which was down a slight hill, completely separated from the main house, with it's own secluded, private entrance and a rustic feel of a tree house. The room (more like a suite) was gorgeous, very clean and had a warm fire already burning when we walked through the door. With every amenity you could imagine, including a wet bar with frig stocked with complimentary snacks and soft drinks, a whirlpool jet tub, separate shower and pedestal sinks in the bathroom, a huge king sized bed, and it's very own outdoor deck, this was a truly remarkable and charming room. We immensely enjoyed every facet of our stay!! Just can't say enough!

We had arrived near lunch time, and so we decided to head down into town to get our "eat on" at Bistro Roca, nestled off the beaten path, behind the main street, tucked away in the woods beside a quaint city park. We've been to the area several times before, and we have to say... of all the places we've eaten in Blowing Rock, this one was our hands-down favorite. We had come on a Monday afternoon and the only regret we had was that this hidden gem was not open for dinner on Monday's, or else we would have definitely returned to this cozy, French-inspired culinary treat for our main evening meal (definitely next time). We didn't realize it at the time, but after returning home and doing some internet research, we found out that Gideon Ridge owner's Cobb and Cindy Milner, also own and operate Bistro Roca (maybe we shouldn't be at all suprised). This place enjoys a long, rich history in the area as well. The restaurant, which has been around since the early '30's, used to be called Dockside Ira and before that, Antler's bar , before the Milner's purchased it and chose Michael Foreman as their partner and head chef, who trained at the prestigious Cordon Bleu in London.

What a great stay! Looking forward to returning every year!

Our visit to the Gidean Ridge Inn was wonderful. As an innkeeper of a select registry property is truly a treat to be on the receiving end of of everything that the Gidean Ridge Inn offered. The setting was incredible with the wonderful views. Hospitality was great. Christopher went above and beyond with great tea service. What truly impressed me is that when i called and said we were going to be a bit late he asked if he could have anything waiting for us on arrival. i said that was not necessary. Christopher then brought us up tea and scones. I was very impressed. This is what I call good service

The room was lovely. Our second visit to that very room. The Inn Keeper was so helpful, patient and full of good history of the Inn. The amenities lovely. Gracious help for all our needs -- chocolate covered strawberries to the room after dinner and a long sit by the blazing fire we saw Chris, Inn Keeper, so carefully build for us. Also so very gracious about mailing the dress bag I left hanging in our closet -- and not charging us. Perfect stay, as I said, even with the fog. Wonderful atmosphere, autumn colors and sweeping mountain views, when fog allowed. When it didn't, there was a coziness and quiet drama in the atmosphere.

For our 10 year anniversary, my wife & I spent a long weekend at the Gideon Ridge Inn in Blowing Rock, NC. After a few hours in the car, the cheerful greetings we received by manager and staff alike instantly put us at ease. This gorgeous stone mansion sits atop a knoll that overlooks the most magnificent valley to the south with picturesque views of Grandfather Mountain. A stunningly beautiful estate surrounds the Inn and creates an ambiance of isolated relaxation; perfect for couples rediscovering one another, for newlyweds just starting their life’s path, and for those embracing their well-earned retirement. My wife and were instantly enchanted by the warm décor of the living and dining areas, and delighted by the attention to detail that was overtly taken in assembling our bedroom. Equally enticing was the menu offered at the Inn’s restaurant; which included a roasted tomato bisque, the most delicious pheasant and wild mushroom risotto, an elk chop cooked to medium-rare perfection (bone-on), and a desert medley that would melt your heart. The chef’s use of local produce and meats established a character of freshness that charmed the palette. The option of outdoor dining on the Inn’s generous, cascading patio and the notably articulate and personable wait staff completed our dining experience to the N-th degree. The Inn is located in close proximity to the town of Blowing Rock, the Blue Ridge Parkway, ample hiking and biking trails and several of North Carolina’s up-and-coming vineyards. These combinations of activities, luxuries and seclusion created an anniversary getaway that has trumped our honeymoon. The Gideon Ridge Inn is now “our retreat” for such special occasions and we pine for the next opportunity to visit.

Loved our all too brief stay at Gideon Ridge. The Sunrise Terrace room had incredible views, and a gorgeous sunrise on an October morning-- I room was bathed in sunlight. Agree with earlier reviews, could here some traffic noise, but really tuned out with the setting. Dinner at Restaurant G was very good, wines a bit over-priced and a rather limited selection. Breakfast was wonderful, especially the corn cakes. The grounds for walking around are really picturesque, overall-- a simply wonderful property.
