I have nothing but raves about this dining experience. From the amuse bouche through the strawberry gazpacho and on to the chicken saltimbocca…..everything was presented with penuche, cooked with great skill, and enjoyed by the eye and the palate. The service was equal to the food. My companion had the rack of lamb cooked perfectly AND the lowly brussels sprout was so lovingly prepared sitting on the plate in its perfect caramelized state. It's now my favorite veg. Lemon pound cake and "pumpkin pie" OK…..I now just want to move in here and spend my last farthing eating this grand cuisine.

The atmosphere, the service, and the food were all spectacular! This quaint and secluded restaurant transports you back in time! It provides such a romantic feeling and makes you feel like royalty.

Rowland's is a fabulous find. nestled in The Westglow Spa and Resort! We were walked in the entrance to be lead to a warm, southern, intimate, and charming room which had an amazing view of the mountain at sunset. There was an outdoor porch and rocking chairs. To make the evening more charming, there was a pianist and a fire burning in our dining area. We were greeted by the manager who introduced himself.

There were 7 of us and we were seated at a formal table with candle light and golden chargers glowing. We brought wine and some ordered cocktails.

We had leisurely conversation and ordered pork chops, filets, grouper, and lamb chops. The pork chop was excellent and served with little potatoes and fried kale. Excellent. The lamb chops were accompanied by mashed potatoes and a green. The fish was served with an Asian fusion and a black rice.

For dessert, we sampled several from the PB & J special, chocolate dessert which was soupy, apple dumpling, pumpkin brûlée and the cheesecake. Our favorite by far was Apple Dumpling. After the chef came by and introduced himself.

The server was young and while she tried very hard to please us, She was just ok.

Pricing was pricey! Certainly this is what you would expect for this dining experience. This is dining, not eating. Portions were nice and perfect for most. However, if you have a lumberjack whose eating, he may not love the portion size!

All in all, the meal was very good. The ambiance was just over the top. I would recommend this to anyone especially for a special occasion. If in the area, Rowland's should not be missed. Book early as the restaurant is small and intimate.

I don't know where the other reviewers ate, but my experience was NOT 5-star. Atmosphere was marred by background Motown, a musical genre more fit for a burger joint. Food was bland and featured large portions canned vegetables. Service was polite but inexperienced. Wine list probably came from the local supermarket. The only element consistent with fine dining was the bill which was in league with all the Relais & Chateaux restaurants.

There are much better restaurants in the NC mountains.
