All things considered, this is an okay place to stay. It's a 1 BR, 1 bath apartment with kitchenette and nice laundry facilities. There is a superior view of downtown Boone from the unit, which is quite near Grandfather Mountain (20 mns), Roan Mountain (1hr), and Valle Crucis.
On Thursday night-Friday morning, we got 2 inches of snow. At about 8am, a group of four deer crossed the meadow below.
The apartment is part of a 1966 home perched on a mountain-top. Parking is easy. It's quite private; we never saw the owner or anyone else.
Most things are included in the rent: bed and bath linens, laundry detergent, shampoo, bath soap, pots and pans, kitchen utensils, basic cable TV (we could not figure out how to use the Roku). We stayed on a couple of very chilly nights, but the apartment stays nice and cozy. Even after you have 'paid in full', the owner will leave you a bill for his $25 'pet fee'. A pet fee is reasonable, but shouldn't this be included in the initial bill?
A few things need attention: 1) two of the steps in the outdoor stairs leading down to the unit are dangerously loose; this is a liability lawsuit waiting to happen; 2) the outdoor lighting on the path to the unit is primitive at best; again, an accident looming; 3) the trash situation: the former occupant's trash was still clogging our unit's waste-bin; where were we to leave our trash? does the owner ever check on these things? 4) access to the meadow was perilously steep, so we did not attempt to go there; 5) it would be nice to have instructions for using the TV and Roku; 6) the exterior of the home near the stairs to the unit is kinda trashy; also, the patio is full of furniture, a hot tub, an exercise bike, and extension cords, so not very inviting.
Sorry, but only an adolescent would leave a note reminding the unit's occupants to close the blinds when the owner is using the hot tub, but also formally forbidding occupants to use the hot tub themselves!
