We stayed here on vacation and loved this hotel. Very nice staff, nice room, good breakfast and a wonderful deck overlooking the mountains. We like to find places with a one bedroom suite due to traveling with a teenager - it gives everyone some space. I would ask for a room away from the highway. The place was very clean, quiet and a great place to stay! I would highly recommend it.

Room Tip: Ask for a room not facing the highway.

The front desk seems to be manned by kids. When we checked in, they had no idea where to recommend a restaurant for lunch, nor did they even know the name of the street the hotel is on. When we tried to check out, no one was at the desk, nor did anyone appear when we tried the desk phone. We waited more than 10 minutes for a young clerk to breathlessly run up.

Our last morning at breakfast we made a waffle, which tasted rancid. After we threw out what remained of our waffle, we were appalled to watch the attendant replace what appeared to be yesterday's batter with fresh. She should have done that before opening the door to breakfast, or at least warned us.

This was the first time I have ever encountered an extra fee for checking in before 3 pm. I don't like it.

I booked on line however there was no place to make a room request. When we arrived about 5:45 p.m. to check in there was no one around. We waited several minutes. I thought about calling the front desk to get someone to come to the desk. We were checked in quickly but were not given the option of selecting a room on the back side of the building. The hallway leading to the rooms is poorly lit. We were on the first floor overlooking Highway 421. When I turned on the air conditioner it helped block out the noise. The room and bathroom were clean overall. There was a ball of black lint or a dead spider by the bed. Also a previous guest had thrown a washcloth up on the shower rod and it was unnoticed by housekeeping. The beds could use more pillows. The bed was too firm which made for a restless night. The TV was pre digital and had to be turned up loud to hear it. There was no program guide on the TV so it was annoying when trying to find something to look at. The vending machine charged $1.75 for a 12 oz can of soda. That is rather steep. The machine wouldn't even accept a fresh unfolded $1 bill. We tried the breakfast next morning. The breakfast area is also on the highway side. There is a balcony overlooking the highway. The door was open to allow some fresh air in but it also let in the traffic noise. Between the noise of the TV and the traffic it was impossible to relax. The coffee was lukewarm and tasteless. There was a waffle maker which I tried. There were biscuits, eggs (powdered), sausage gravy (runny) and bacon. The fresh fruit was over ripe bananas. There were cups of strawberries to put on the waffles (located around the corner from the waffle area) and whipped cream. There was cereal and pastries (waxy). The juice machine was out of all but 1 juice. The sneeze guard over the hot breakfast item was situated so low in such a way that prevented one from opening the lid on the items without burning nearly burning oneself. Sure the room rate was low but I don't think I'll stay here on my next visit to Boone.

This hotel is fast becoming my favorite. The reservation staff is always friendly and eager to be helpful. Always call to be sure the room is up to snuff. My kids love the fresh cookies; I like having the mini fridge, microwave and free wifi.

We booked online through the Club Carlson website. We did make some special requests in our reservation. We requested a room on the back side (parking lot side) of the hotel because there is basically a 6 lane highway just feet from the front of the hotel. We learned that lesson after our first stay in this hotel in October of 2010. We also requested to have extra towels in the room and to be away from the elevators. We emailed the hotel contact information that is listed on their website and never recieved an email back from them. The front desk clerk when we checked in was friendly. She confirmed our room was on the back side of the hotel, so that made me happy. Upon getting off the elevator on the third floor, we realized our wishes had been met, we had the furthest away room from the elevator. Our room was nice and clean. There were no extra towels in the room so we did have to call back down to the front desk. They quickly brought us towels. The fitness center was small and extremely hot while we were there. Apparently they got tired of people adjusting the temperature so they just took half the thermostat off of the wall. They really need to fix this. Workout rooms generally are kept cold so that when people workout they are comfortable. One of the two treadmills were broken. The plug was missing the metal prongs. So that just left one treadmill, one bike, and an elliptical that worked. The pool was nice. It is only about 4 foot deep but we had it to ourselves while we were there. We really enjoyed our stay, and more than likely we would stay here again. Our last night there we walked in and out probably half a dozen times and never once did we see the front desk clerk. At last, my wife needed a box of tissues so she went up to the front desk and there was a telephone with a sign saying the desk clerk had to step away from the desk to perform other duties. She picked up the phone and hit zero and a phone in the next room rang and the male desk clerk got up from watching television in the back room (which you could tell he was doing). He was friendly but that doesn't seem very professional. The beds are very very firm. The next morning we were awaken by an annoying fire alarm going off. It quickly went off. About 5 minutes later it went off again. After speaking to the front desk clerk we were told that the inspector was there and inspecting alarms. Seriously? Was there no way to notify guests upon checkin or leave a message on the in room answering service? A few minutes later the fire department responded. So apparently they didn't notify the fire department they would be checking their alarm either. I do feel sorry for the front desk clerk that was working the day we checked out because he was the same desk clerk that was there the night before and the afternoon before.

Room Tip: Room 301, where we stayed was perfect. It's a double queen, on the parking lot side of the top...

Our family of four, consisting of two teens stayed here in Jan 2012 for a long weekend getaway. It snowed every day! The rooms, pool area, dining area, lobby was very clean. The staff were very friendly. The hotel sits on a hill overlooking one of the major thoroughfares. There is a marvelous Lowes Foods across the street along with a theater, sub shop etc. The lobby has hot coffee and chocolate available along with some yummy chocolate chip cookies. We will certainly come back here again next year for more winter fun!

Very good hotel which is ideally located in Boone, NC. Huge, spacious rooms which are kept very clean. Eager, friendly, and efficient management. Free, freshly baked cookies on arrival and check-out, and, they have a library with books on loan, too! I'm kind of a hotel snob, but I must say, I'd definitely come back here.

Note: fire alarm went off in the middle of the night, very loud and scary. Probably won't happen to anyone else, but if you're prone to seizures or epilepsy, stay away! Loud noises and large blinking lights drove me insane. Finally was turned off 10 minutes later.
