“Great secluded getaway”
Reviewed 30 March 2017 for a stay in March 2017

The cabin was very clean and well kept. We especially appreciated all the kitchen supplies available for use. Front porch offers a good view. Hot tub was nice when it worked right, which really wasn't very often. Basically no traffic up at the cabin, vehicle or foot. Overall, a good stay.

“Beautiful and peaceful .. in Western NC”
Reviewed 11 March 2017 for a stay in February 2017

Let me start off by saying that we We had a wonderful stay.
The cabin is in a beautiful and remote location, which is not too far far from the little town of Bryson City and the parks
The cabin is as pictured, verynicely maintained, and warmly decorated
- perfect for a family with little ones and two dogs. The views from the front porch are inspiring.. and at night, the sky's the limit with a telescope .. the afternoon breeze were perfect for flying kites.
A picturesque creek is on the property and good hiking for children.
The drive to parks.. the Nantahala .. and elks is short.
We had no troubles getting to the cabin, the road is rustic.. and if you arrive in the day there is no issue at all.
The friendly mountain dog that visits is a sweetheart.
We had no issues, and Donnie called us to make sure we had everything we needed.
We lead a great time and look to visit gain !

The roads were bad getting in and out of the property. Had to forge a small creek, and should
have a 4-wheele drive, or at least an SUV.
Was told check in time was 2pm, but when we arrived, was told it was 4pm.
Stray dog was allowed to hang out on a rug, on the porch, and scarred my dogs.
Broken chair in living room, furniture not comfortable.
Otherwise, beautiful view and nice home.
Lock box for key broken.

Thank-You for the feedback! We welcome your comments and we will work hard to address the issues you mentioned. We have already had the chair repaired and I have corrected the check in time on the website. We also had the lockbox repaired. The little dog is not a stray at all but belongs to the neighbors up the mountain. Her name is P.D. (Pretty Dog). She enjoys visiting all the guests when they come, probably because everyone gives her food :-). She also will sneak off with your shoes if you aren't careful! Everyone loves P.D. Sorry she scared your pups! A couple of things we won't be able to correct include the road conditions, which by mountain standards, are actually pretty favorable. We have to keep in mind that these are the mountains. And the little creek is only about ankle deep with a solid rock bed. It has been flowing over that road for many years and will continue for many more I'm sure. We like to think of it as part of the ambiance of the property and most folks actually enjoy that sort of thing. I have ridden my motorcycle over that creek many times and my son has no problem traversing the area in his Honda Civic. By the way, we made several attempts to contact you at the cabin to see if you had everything you needed but were not successful in getting through to you. We do hope you had a wonderful time and we truly appreciate your choosing Fox Run for your mountain vacation.

Best Personal Regards,

Donnie and Brenda

I went to Fox Run with a friend of mine. We stayed for 4 nights. It is a beautiful location and the cabin was very clean and had lots of great amenities. The best parts were the hot tub and the sitting on the porch listening to the creek at the edge of the property. The owner, Donnie was extremely nice and helpful. We had to call him/text him to ask about operating the hot tub. It was getting late (9:30), but he didn't seem bothered in the least. We got it going and were able to enjoy it during our stay.
There was plenty of sitting space in the living room and the kitchen was well stocked with equipment. The beds were comfortable. I would suggest, like previous reviewers, that you plan to get there before dark. Also, take a copy of the directions with you, phone service is sketchy in the mountains - Verizon seems to work better than ATT. Get directions from the owner - not sure it would be as easy to find simply using GPS. Also, it is a little remote - far from a store. Not a bad distance, but you don't want to get up there right before dark and realize you should have brought toilet paper up the mountain with you.
Most of the drive is fine, but a little windy, but the last stretch is a narrow ( 1 car width) little gravel road. It was a little scary at first, but we got used to it. Like another reviewer, we never had any problems with having to pass anyone, but it is a possibility. The cabin is remote, but there are a couple of other cabins near by and some farms/homes just down the gravel road - so you don't feel too isolated. There is also wifi and phone service in the cabin. We never watched tv... too busy enjoying nature, but there are 3 tvs with dvd and I believe cable. There is a hike to a waterfall that is enjoyable, I thought it was worth the effort, but it might be a bit steep and treacherous for some. The water fall was very pretty. We also enjoyed picking the blueberries and eating them with our cereal in the morning. I might mention that we made a new friend while we were there - each night a really sweet black speckled dog would come to the back porch and visit with us. He would follow us down to the hot tub and actually made us feel a little protected. (just two ladies) The first time we saw him, it was a bit of a startle - it was dark outside and there he was on the porch, but he was really just the sweetest dog. We enjoyed eating at Jimmy Mac's and Anthony's Italian Restaraunt in Bryson City. The fried trout and catfish at Jimmy Macs was great. Downtown Bryson City seems to close down a little early - not much open after 6:00, but these two restaurants were open later. It is a cute little town. We also visited Cherokee - enjoyed the Indian village and museum. Other things to do in the area - whitewater rafting, tubing, ziplines, hiking ..... We wish we could have stayed longer! Hopefully we can go back someday.

Tina,

What nice comments and a very detailed review. I'm certain that this review will help other travelers who are searching for accommodations. We are so happy to hear that you found our little piece of heaven to be everything we promised! You are right about the little narrow road but there are a couple of places along that stretch where you could safely handle any oncoming traffic. I can honestly say that in the 11 years we have owned the property that I could count on one hand the number of times we have met oncoming vehicles on our way up. There just aren't many folks around up there. We are delighted that you found so much to do and we hope you can return again someday to explore all of the many attractions that you were not able to see on this trip! I agree with you that the fried trout at Jimmy Mac's is delicious. Thanks again for the very nice review!

Best Personal Regards,

“Nice relaxing cabin by a rushing creek”
Reviewed 16 February 2016 for a stay in February 2016

My girlfriend and I had wonderful weekend at this cabin. We spent time relaxing in the hot tub while listening to the rushing creek right below us. We hiked up to the waterfall which I highly recommend. It was a bit strenuous, but well worth the effort once you get there.
Just make sure that you wear a good pair of hiking boots.
The cabin itself was very clean and well maintained. The kitchen had everything that we needed to cook. There's also a nice charcoal grill if you feel like cooking out.
The owners were a pleasure to deal with and extremely helpful. They made us feel very welcome and did everything possible to ensure that we enjoyed our stay.

Donnie & family - Thank you very much for letting us stay at your cabin. We had a wonderful time and look forward to visiting again in the near future.

Sincerely,
Dan & Jenn

“Beautiful cabin with creek and mountain views!”
Reviewed 20 March 2015 for a stay in March 2015

We definitely recommend Fox Run! To us you have the best of both worlds, a heavily flowing creek running through the property and views of the mountains with beautiful sunsets. The cabin is more spacious than the pictures show and one of the cleanest ones we have been in. The owner was very accommodating and making sure we had everything we needed. We will definitely go back!
