“A decline in the upkeep over the years...”
Reviewed 28 October 2013 via mobile

I have been visiting this golf course since the mid 80s...People would fly in clients to play this lovely course not far from Mt.Mitchell. Two trips this summer showed a real decline in the entire area in and around the golf course. It was flooded due to abundant rains but the entire course and the houses looked rather *shabby* after years of use. I doubt my friends and I will go back there to play golf unless some considerable updating is done to the course and adjacent restaurant and condos. A beauty in decline.

“How the mighty has fallen...”
Reviewed 29 September 2013

The Mount Mitchell golf course had one thing going for it and that is the condition. Sadly, the condition we experienced this weekend was very disappointing. The scenery is still fantastic but the greens on Friday were nearly unplayable. Saturday was a little better but not up to par.

I have been to Mount Mitchell many times since 1986 but this weekend was probably my last trip (and many people I spoke with said the same).

When the condition of your course is what brings people back........you simply cannot neglect it.

“Unpolished Gem”
Reviewed 31 July 2013 via mobile

What a sad state for what had been a GEM!

Played the course over the years and each year saw decline! This year it finally hit the bottom!

Greens are like the rough at most courses! They don't even cut them each day!

Tried to allow for the heavy rains but that isn't the base cause here!

Just horribly maintained traps, greens, fairways etc!

Driving an hour to try and play through this is just not worth it!

Don't waste your time!

“Breathtakingly beautiful golf”
Reviewed 29 July 2013

I returned to Mt. Mitchell Golf Course some twenty-one years after having fallen in love with it, and the old romance is still there.

Despite the fact that a summer of constant heavy rain has waterlogged this beautiful track, the beauty of its setting, the genius of its design, and the care with which it has been maintained are ever present.

I guarantee you that the par three #11 hole will be a memorable experience for every golfer. The back nine especially, with the South Toe River threading its way through nearly every hole, will have you coming back at every opportunity.

“Nice course in a beautiful setting”
Reviewed 23 July 2013

My wife and I had heard about this course for years. When we found ourselves in the vicinity we thought we would play it. The course is fine. It can't compare to the private clubs in the mts, but it will keep you attentive. The back nine is the better of the two. What sets this course apart is the setting. It is pretty special and the views of the surrounding mountains are worth the greens fee. If you are in the area it is worth stopping off to play.
