“They're trying!!”
Reviewed 19 May 2014

This is a good place to stay if you're not looking for luxury. I don't mean that in a bad way either. It's true they are doing renovations to a lot of the rooms, and I guess will eventually get all rooms reprinted etc.
our room was clean, well stocked, towels etc and the bed was comfortable. Coffee and microwave in room.
The pool was not ready but I was right by the beach so didn't worry me, I wasn't staying there to lounge by pool, but this should have been mentioned at booking in case we did need that.
It's a good central place to stay, plenty of restaurants etc all round.
It's recently under new management and they are trying very hard to put this motel higher up the food chain! They were very nice and friendly. No problems at all.

My wife and I booked 2 nights which included our anniversary. We were looking for a basic room, nothing fancy.

The hotel called us 2 hours before our arrival (seemed a great practice) to confirm. When we arrived, we found no rooms ready. We also discovered, AFTER they ran an authorization on our card, that half or more of the hotel was under renovation (painting).

After waiting, we asked to see the room they readied before we agreed to stay. At this time, we were able to see the view (a lot with debris across from the location) and also noticed several painters and most of the adjoining rooms had trash bags taped to the windows. The room itself had just been heavily sprayed with air sanitizer to mask and it almost knocked us down.

The pool was not filled or ready and at 4:30 PM we heard a couple come in asking about the fact that their room was dirty and they had no new towels at all.

This property has potential but is currently a complete mess and I would only stay there as a last resort for sleep before traveling.

I will add that the Only reason they did not receive a one is that Maleta personally called our bank to ask that the authorization be removed and called us back later to see if we did find a room.

In fact we did and it was wonderful so watch for another Outer Banks review soon.

Again this property: Dated, under construction (cosmetics), needs a great deal of cleanup, uncomfortable feel with rooms open, trash bags on windows and crew members siting in trucks sort of watching the rooms.

Th rooms were clean and nice. Also, the staff were very pleasant and helpful for our stay. The hotel had good access to the beach, even though it was a slight walk. They had a tower to climb to the top for a view of the island and the lighthouse, which was very romantic.

Visiting from Arizona and visiting my girlfriend. She took me to the Outer Banks to see the site's. The Lighthouses! We enjoyed our stay. Room was nice, clean and comfortable beds. The staff was very friendly even there patrons. Which he gave us some tips on where we can get the best pictures of the lighthouse and sunrise. The view was the observation deck was awesome! We would stay again!

Stayed two nights, friendly, helpful, room was clean, beds were good, coffee on 24/7 ! For under a 100 a night well worth it! Central to everything, went down and checked out the Ship wrecks of the Atlantic, new museum, it was good, 13yr old loved it.

This was a nice place to stay with clean rooms. The staff was friendly and helpful in regards to the area and the ferry.

We didn't see (not saying they didn't have one) an elevator for the second floor which would have been nice for luggage, but not a reason to stay away.

It was at a central location, and we enjoyed our stay and would stay again.

For a one night stay, Hatteras Island is an OK place to stay. It's an old school motel that isn't flashy, but the rooms are good size for a hotel under $100/nt. There's no big time amenities as far as soup, shampoo and coffee. Bring your own.
Fortunately, by their own admission, I received Internet service because I was close to the reservation office, otherwise service is "spotty". On the evening I stayed, the drinks machine on the second floor did not have any drinks.
The people at check in and check out were friendly enough and I'd stay save other options

Room Tip: Rooms close to the main office grants you Internet service, otherwise you need a portable hotspot
