This is a self guided tour which falls short. I found myself looking for the end before we were even halfway there. Some info and it's a short walk but not really worth it.

“ticks, snakes and sand”
Reviewed 20 April 2013

This is an interesting walk to see what the Outer Banks is really made of, but the walk is tough due to sand and there are more ticks in this wood than you could even believe. Consider yourself warned.

“Ticks, ticks, ticks”

Very enjoyable easy hike. But, protect yourself and your dogs for exposure to ticks. A good beach alternative excursion.

“Lovely trail and educational”
Reviewed 19 March 2013

This is a lovely walk conveniently located just across from the Lighthouse. It is a great way to get oriented to the local flora as there are educational signs describing various trees and plants. Visually it is beautiful and there is a quiet atmosphere in which to enjoy your visit.

“Peaceful”
Reviewed 21 October 2012

We love the short loop trail thru the Buxton Woods. It doesn't matter what time of year we hike it ,it is always beautiful. It is a peaceful escape from the crowds (in the summer) and delightful off season. Sometimes it is nice to hike in the woods instead of on the sand. We always manage to take great nature photos of either insects, birds or plants.
