“Great Place with Hatteras Island feel.”
Reviewed 5 August 2008

The Cape Pines was a great find for my wife and I and our two boys six and 11 years old. We found the owners to be very accomadating and friendly. Our room was comfortable and clean. Location wise you are just a minute drive to the Light-house and beach and the pool was an excellent way to cool down, have a BBQ and relax after a day of beach fun and sightseeing. Having the local market right across the street and not having to jump into the car was another awesome plus for just about anything we may have needed just steps away.

We own a rental home on Hatteras Island & prefer to drive down a day early before the renter's vacate the house in order to avoid the weekend traffic from the D.C. area. We have a large dog, which limits the number of places we can stay overnight before occupying our beach cottage. This is the second year in a row that we've stayed at Cape Pines (also with our two grandchildren, ages 9 & 11) & our experience both times have been delightful. The friendly new owners, Angie & Bill, have done an excellent job with the property these last two years. It's rooms, while modest, are a great value, extremely clean, bright & cheery, especially unit # 4, & the swimming pool is nicely maintained. We look forward to staying at the Cape Pines again next year & recommend it highly.

We had never visited NC before, and therefore, were a little nervous picking a place to stay that would be cheap, nice, and close to Ocracoke Island. I saw this motel online, saw the pics, and was pretty impressed on how clean everything looked. We had two adjoining rooms, one suite and one deluxe room. Both rooms were great, especially the suite. The suite had a full-sized kitchen, filled with plates to spatulas and a kitchen table etc. We even had access to the back yard. The rooms were very clean as described, and we truly felt comfortable. The rooms were spacious, especially the suite. The bathroom of the suite was extra clean and big. We were about less than 20 minutes away from the ferry that would take us to Ocracoke Island. The ferry ride was the best, and Ocracoke Island was truly beautiful. The beaches were minutes away from the motel, making it convenient to go to the beach multiple times a day.

The people were very nice, and we will surely visit them again!

My children and I had the pleasure of staying at the Cape Pines Motel for the first time this year. Previously we had stayed in a home in Avon. We were greeted warmly by the owners who treated us throughout our visit as if we were their personal guests. Service was exceptional. We enjoyed 2 adjoining rooms - one was a suite with full kitchen with table seating for 6 (equipped better than my kitchen at home!) and a lovely ceramic tiled large bath with two queen sized beds, couch which could be used for additional sleeping and chair. It's quite a surprise to see beautiful hardwood floors. The 2nd room was used as a bedroom - 2 doubles with shower bath. We were taken by how clean and fresh both rooms were. The furnishings were bright, warm and set the stage for a very comfortable week-long stay. It was evident that the new owners had invested in quality rennovations of this older property. While in the past we had enjoyed beach access from our ocean side rental home, we found the short drive to the beach at the Lighthouse to be an easy access each day. We were able to pack our lunch before leaving, enjoyed the day on the beach and returned to the great pool at the Cape Pine. Cape Pines is pet friendly and they really mean that! We prefer to travel with our dog and they made us feel very welcome with pets. Buxton is a growing town with more restaurants and conveniences similar to those found in its larger neighbor, Avon. It was good to be able to experience not only our terrific accommodations but Buxton itself. I would highly recommend this great property and intend to go back as soon as possible!

We were very underwhelmed and disappointed by the Cape Pines Motel. We stayed in a pet-friendly room with our dog and the room smelled terrible, there was barely room to move around, and it was quite a bit raggedy (wallpaper peeling, broken tiles, bathroom just felt nasty). The pool is very nice, although it's only feet away from NC 12. The rest of the grounds were pretty rough - the grilles were not usable, pet waste out back. There is no direct beach access and you have to drive to get anywhere. Additionally, after driving through Avon to get to Buxton, we wondered why we didn't just stay in Avon, which is a much more aesthetically pleasing community with direct beach access most everywhere. We will not return to the Cape Pines.

When we first arrived at the Cape Pines Motel, we thought it was just another older no-frills motel. But we were sure surprized when we saw the room. We had a two queen bed room in the 2-story section that was recently renovated and it greatly exceeded our expectations. It had a microwave and refrigerator and very comfortable beds. Everything was very clean and new looking. It wasn't the Four Seasons but for the price we paid, we were thrilled. In the lobby, there is a free computer to check your emails and a couple of very friendly bulldogs. If we ever return to the area, we will certainly stay there again.

We stayed here for a long weekend, just when the Summer kicked in with sun and hot temperatures.

We found this motel via Tripadvisor, it was the only place of its kind in the Outer Banks receiving consistently excellent rankings. The couple that runs the place deserves them. Absolutely!

Checking in goes seamless, the rooms are clean and surprisingly light too. The pool can be seen from most of the rooms, a piece of mind for many parents. Our room had TV, wireless, microwave, A/C and fridge. It all worked fine. In case you need anything, there is a convenient supermarket across the street.

Service is superb, the current owners / managers really care about their guests. I've never seen such attentive staff, they really added something very nice to our trip.
