“Vacation”
Reviewed 23 June 2014

We stayed here recently for three nights. Our room wasn't ready on time. When we finally got into our room it was okay, but they weren't very detail oriented when they were cleaning. The view from our room was great. The outdoor pool was nice too. They had an indoor workout room, and indoor pool,as well as an indoor hot tub. We didn't use the indoor pool, or hot tub because they didn't appear to be very clean. The front desk staff was rude. The hotel seemed to be short staffed. The best part of the hotel was the bistro. The food was great, and the service was amazing. The bartender Tahlia was very nice, and energetic. The bistro was a little pricey, but well worth it. Everything was fresh, and delicious. When I booked the room I checked the "quiet room" option, and our room ended up being by the elevator. There was a lot of traffic, and noise at night.

Hello cbgirl22,

Thank you for sharing your experience on Trip Advisor. Thank you for your kind words about our Bistro and specifically Thalia at the bar. I will be sure to let her know the praise you gave her. I apologize for check-in delay at the front desk. Your feedback will help us do a better job with this for all future guests. With that being said, we hope that you will give us another chance and we'll see you again really soon.

I don't know where these other reviewers stayed, but it could not have been the same place. I've traveled all over the world and stayed at numerous beachfront hotels, and this was the worst in terms of cleanliness.
First off, I understand this is on the beach; however, that does not excuse the yellow spots on our pillows and comforter, nor does it explain the child's dirty handprint on our drapes. And speaking of the drapes, there were spots all over them and what appeared to be a cigarette hole. The bathroom had dust and dirt in the corners, and the ceiling had severe brown water spots. Now, let's consider the pool. Never have I seen so much sand in a swimming pool before. When we stayed in Myrtle, there was NO sand in any of the resort's eight swimming pools. Marriott couldn't take the time to clean one? Please. Let me also mention that, on a Saturday at noon, there were still NO towels available to any guests. None by the indoor or outdoor pools. Housekeeping was apparently "running behind" according to the front desk. Now, I do want to say that the staff at the front and at the Bistro are extremely friendly and helpful, and they are the ONLY reason I gave this place two stars instead of one. Management needs to see that this "resort" is cleaned properly. We will not be returning.

Room Tip: Here's a tip: Don't waste your money here.

We enjoyed the outside pool, inside pool , hot tub & of course the beach. All staff was very helpful. The balcony overlooking the ocean was awesome . The food was very good. Chicken quesidilla & salmon salad are highly recommended. Fireworks by the boardwalk was a good show. I just wish there was a self serve complimentary coffee station. Parking was an issue at times.

Room Tip: all rooms have an ocean view

The decision to stay here was a quick one, as we took a one day trip to the beach. While there were other places rated just as well, they didn't offer the reliability or possible security of a chain. The price was on par with several other smaller hotels in the area and so we booked a room for a night.

The hotel really sits in a perfect spot and you can't be the ocean front view from the small patios. Everything was clean and the staff was friendly. When our key didn't initially work, staff was able to confirm it was indeed our room and let us in with no hassle.

There are several places to eat nearby and if you check out early, public parking for the beach is almost right next door.

They are also near a boardwalk carnival, so if you have kids, be ready for them to ask about getting on rides. But I'd do so at your own risk...some of the rides look like they had seen way better days.

Would we return? Yes and we are already looking forward to coming back!

I would say the rooms were average for a Courtyard, but the lobby and common areas were very nice and very modern. Great oceanfront views and a very nice breakfast buffet. The bartender, Steve, was great, very attentive and remembered us every time.

The pros of this venue - beachfront, nice breakfast buffet and bistro where you can get everything from Starbucks coffee to cocktails and sandwiches to gourmet salads.

The cons - small beach towels and pool, not enough staff at the bistro during busy times, dysfunctional kitchenette.

There is a carnival on the north side of the hotel and if your room is there, you literally have a mini roller coaster right under your window. A bit noisy, but our kids enjoyed watching from the room. The bathroom layout is kind of strange; involves opening and closing three doors because there is a door from hallway to toilet, toilet to sink and sink to bedroom. Balcony furniture is barebones.

Although the room had a "kitchenette" with big cabinets, there were NO dishes or silverware, so it was basically pointless.

Overall, these accomodations were well-priced for the beautiful oceanfront view and were comfortable.

Room Tip: Beware of carnival on the north side!

This hotel is a hard one to review. This was our second time staying and it was a difficult decision to come back to the hotel. Our first stay was last August 2013 and we experienced terrible room service in a not so clean room - the bathroom had mold on the ceiling. Even though our room had been serviced the staff did not leave any clean towels or toilet paper - we were left with just a couple of sheets on the existing roll. We called the front desk three times and did not have the situation resolved until I left the room and found a housekeeper. It would seem a no-brainer that we would not return. However, there are some nice aspects of the hotel that helped us determine to make a return trip to give it another try. First, all the rooms are beach front on a beach we love - Carolina Beach. Second, it's the second best-rated hotel on the beach. What other options are there? Third, the room set up is perfect for traveling with a toddler. Both times we stayed in a suite - these are located on the ends of the hotel. The rooms are separated into the sleeping space and the living space. The living space has an ocean front view, a refrigerator, sink, cabinets to store your food for the week, and a dining table to eat at. These are nice aspects when traveling with children. Third, the hotel has a full restaurant menu along with an anytime bistro menu. They usually have something that we can eat when we don't feel like leaving the hotel. Fourth, the hotel offers an indoor and outdoor pool as well as a small work-out area. The pools feel a little dirty but they offer a nice activity when we don't want to head to the beach in the evening or if it's simply too hot for our toddler to hang out on the beach (the outdoor pool is in the shade of the hotel). So, there are a lot of nice things about the hotel, but the room service aspect really needs work and our second trip was no exception. During this stay, our room was serviced at different times of the day throughout our trip. This is stressful because you do not know when would be a good time to leave the room or to try and schedule a rest/nap time for your child. The hotel offers a breakfast buffet that you pay for but is basically the same as what is included in a complimentary (or included in teh price) breakfast at other Marriotts. If you request a suite, be sure to request the end of the hotel away from the carnival activities. It is loud until 10:30pm. It's a 3 star hotel trying desperately to be a 4 star. But the reality is that good service is the one thing that will always leave an impression on guests and this hotel just hasn't figured that part out yet.
