“Service, Ambiance, Food, all great.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 August 2014 via mobile

I was at first reluctant to eat here after reading some of the reviews re service but glad I gave it a try. Don't pass it up. We were welcomed and seated quickly. Our server was Heather: all service attitude, knowledge, smiles, and recommendations when asked. The restaurant provides an attractive setting. My wife and I had the lamb chops and scallops respectively. Both were very good. Food was so good, we were determined to share a dessert. The bread pudding was moist, the way I like it, and good to the last bite.
We were in their large room which had moderate noise. I expect it would be noisy if crowded.
We plan to return while in the area.

“Excellent Service, though not from our server.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 August 2014 via mobile

My husband and I stopped in one evening for dinner while passing through Cashiers.First off it is one of the most beautiful buildings I have ever seen. Though we didn't have a reservation we were very lucky to sit outside (would recommend one, they looked quite busy.) Our server was Rene or something like that, not really sure because she's not who really took care of us. Her and a another girl by the name of Alice seemed to be sharing the porch. Alice had looked to have more tables but it didn't stop her from stopping at our table to ask if we needed anything when our heads began turning took look for our server and she was no where to be found. Alice answered all our questions about menu very eloquently and seemed to know quite a bit about it. She rattled off dishes with ease. When our server finally did show back up we asked her opinion to which she didn't really have one. We took Alice's suggestion and had the elk chop and scallops. AMAZING. The wild berry demi on the chop and butteriness of the scallops was devine.
Their wine selection is out of this world and the food is beyond compare. Our particular server was extremely lacking, but Alice was fantastic and had some if the best table presence I've every enjoyed. She's a gem and we will be sure to come back and sit in HER section and we advise others to do the same.

“Bad service and mediocre food”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 August 2014

We ate at The Gamekeeper's Tavern last night. We had enjoyed a meal at the bar a year ago and were happy to revisit, but we were disappointed. The waitress, who didn't appear to have more than four or five tables to keep up with (and it was late enough in the evening that the place was not overly busy) was uninformed and inattentive. During one of her brief stops by our table, one of us asked what was featured on the vegetable plate, and she replied that it was the chef's choice. We asked what the chef's choice was that night and she said the cooks would not tell her. I'm not sure this is her fault or the restaurant's but it doesn't seem to be asking too much to know what's on a vegetable plate you're thinking about ordering. The food we eventually got, except for one entree, was over-sauced (crab cake, grilled caesar salad) or just plain dull (trout.) The wine list is great if you want to spend a lot of money, and the beer selection is impressive. But the food is mediocre and the service leaves a lot to be desired.

“Once again,,,phenomenal!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 July 2014

Once again The Gamekeepers Tavern proves itself to be the best restaurant in the Cashiers/Highlands area. The food, atmosphere, service, food, music, location and did I say food? Tonight we had the salmon, scallops, elk, shrimp and grits and trout dinners were perfect. The appetizers, fresh baked bread and outrageous desserts...delicious! We are a family of 5 and everyone was happy with the meal and the evening.

Thank you for continuing to provide excellent food, service and atmosphere.

“Good as usual”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 July 2014

Ate dinner at The Tavern this past Saturday night. We sat at the bar and really enjoyed the atmosphere. I had the catch of the day and it was very good. Everyone in our party liked their food, particularly the scallops. This place is a must visit if in Cashiers.
