We stayed at The Siena while my daughter was visiting UNC and from the moment we walked in the front door we knew we had made an excellent choice. The staff was competent, friendly, and accommodating. The room was beautiful, clean, and comfortable. The driver was extremely helpful and offered great insights into the city and the college as he was driving us to and from the hotel. Because we had a slight problem with our reservation (it was not the hotel's fault; we had booked through an online source and that source did not let the hotel know we had booked and paid for the room), the manager not only found us a room and got us right into it, she also gave us free breakfasts during our stay. Breakfast was delicious and we had great service in the hotel's restaurant. The Siena is a little pricier than most hotels in the Chapel Hill area, but our experience was well worth the price.

In all respects, this Marriott Autograph Collection hotel is a gem. It is very convenient to the downtown historic district, the UNC campus and a shopping mall that one could walk to. The hotel also operates an on demand shuttle to points within a 5 mile radius.

All staff were unfailingly helpful always willing to go the extra mile.

Our room was scrupulously clean and equipped with a coffee maker, refrigerator, safe and large screen TV. The furnishings were luxurious and the bed was very comfortable. Plush robes and thirsty towels were part of the experience. And who does not like turndown service complete with chocolates.

An Italian restaurant is located within the hotel and is well worth a visit.

The hotel staff referred us to a restaurant in the nearby mall for breakfast and that rounded off a perfect stay. We have no hesitation at all in recommending this hotel to all, whether dropping or picking up students, in town on business or just passing through.

Room Tip: Try for a high floor back corner room

Traveled with my husband a another couple to Chapel Hill to pick up our daughter from a college visit. We decided to make it an overnight so we could relax and have dinner/drinks without having to drive. one of our friends went to school at UNC Chapel Hill and had always wanted to stay at the Siena so we booked it not knowing much. The hotel is in a great spot on Franklin St close to campus, but removed enough from the busy street by a stand of trees that it doesn't feel like it's out there like a motel.

From the first impression (bellman/complimentary valet parking greeted with prompt and friendly service after a grueling 3-hour drive in torrential rain) to the last, the hotel was a treat. It has a grand Renaissance feel with over-the-top decor, glitz and marble and crystal chandeliers and a cool bar with live piano music in the lobby. The concierge was seated on a huge gilded throne. It was kitschy but cool, and so were all of the staff.

We had a martini in the bar and the service there was equally fun and friendly, and then we went up to get organized to go out. When we got to the room the staff were there turning down beds and providing chocolates. Then were off to dinner at a restaurant a couple of miles away. When we asked about a taxi, the hotel actually provided us with a complimentary shuttle to and from dinner so we didn't have to mess with a cab. It was almost too easy.

Beds were big and comfy, bathroom was luxurious and roomy with nice toiletries, there was a mini-fridge and a Keurig for coffee.

Dinner menu looked great but we already had other plans so we didn't try the restaurant.

Overall, great location, great amenities, great service, great staff. We had a great time and would recommend to all and return in a heartbeat.

The staff upgraded our room before we arrived because I had said in our reservation that it was our anniversary. Beautiful large room with king size bed, two white leather chaise lounges and gorgeous bathroom. Only problem encountered was that our room was over the front area of hotel and at midnight a group from a wedding came in from reception held somewhere else but were staying at Siena. They were very noisy and gathered on front patio under our room.
In spite of that, I'd recommend the Siena!

My son and I just spent two nights with 2 of our buddies here in this very nice non-standard Marriott property. Not much about it reminded me of Italy (it's located near a famous chicken and biscuit drive-thru!), but the lobby was comfortable, the rooms were large and boasted a nifty modern decor, the coffee was free in the morning, the staff was friendly and helpful (Southern-style, not Italian -- they recommended a great donut place for us to enjoy breakfast before heading to the airport), and the lobby bar was a pleasant place to enjoy a drink. It has a small hotel feel. I'd be pleased to stay at the Siena again next time I'm in town, though I'd certainly consider the Carolina Inn if I were looking for a more "authentic" experience.
