“Wonderful boutique hotel with charm”
Reviewed 9 April 2007

My wife and I took advantage of a good promotional rate and spent Easter weekend at the Siena. We have both stayed here on several previous occasions, and have always enjoyed our stays. We were not disappointed this time.

This is a well-run, charming boutique hotel. The rooms are large and generally well-appointed, the service is helpful and friendly, the food is excellent, and the beds are superb (I slept better than at home).

Some of the previous reviewers have criticized the poor quality of the art at the hotel. They have a point. For a relatively high- end hotel in which clearly a lot of thought and care has been put, the Siena really has atrocious art. This is not a question of taste (which can vary), the art itself is clearly cheap and often in terrible shape (e.g., warped). This doesn't bother me at all -- I don't stay at hotels for the art -- but it is a little bit of an oddity.

Compared to other nice hotels in the UNC/Duke area, I think the hotel itself is better than the Carolina Inn and generally comparable to the Washington Duke Inn. Obviously, what you are planning on doing makes a big difference -- for instance, the fact that the Carolina Inn is on UNC's campus is a big plus if that's where you want to spend your time.

Overall, I have always enjoyed my stays at the Siena, and would highly recommend it to others.

We were very surprised to find a great restaurant like this in such a small town. Every meal was impressive from dinner to Sunday brunch. When we arrived there was an awesome Jazz group playing along with free hors o’dourves and fantastic martinis. Upon check out on Sunday the lobby was filled with a vast assortment of wonderful foods. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable about the area. I saved the best part for last… they allow dogs!

This hotel has a great location in Chapel Hill, and is beautiful on the outside. The lobby is nice and spacious, and the front desk staff were extremely helpful and friendly. However, the rooms are DESPERATELY in need of refurbishment. The color scheme is 20 years old, the pictures are faded, and the carpets are very tired. I also cannot rave about the beds (very hard). This hotel used to have the reputation of being THE place to stay, but they've let the rooms slide.
