Size-wise these gardens are smaller than most but they are beautiful. They have the best selection of carnivorous plants I've seen and some very interesting sculptures.

It was blistering hot when we were there, but there were still frequent breezes because of the differing landscapes. There is limited signage, but if you run across staff/volunteers taking care of the well-kept grounds, they are friendly and helpful. I thought the Paul Green cabin was interesting. The diversity of plants is impressive.

The paths lead you into lovely scenes, a respite from the town. You feel like you're in distant woods but you're not far from the heart of Chapel Hill. I especially like the annual show of sculpture in the gardens. I visit here many times during the course of a year.

I grew up in these gardens long before they became the official "NC Botanical Gardens, playing in the oak and Maple forests as a child were magical. as an adult, I still wander the trails and find beauty every where I look. A must see when in Chapel Hill and a very special place in the "southern part of heaven."

Great place to go for a walk, even in the heat! with family and friend. There are a wide variety of plants, walking paths, and seasonal sculpture visits. Don't miss the gate. There's also a set of paths that go out from the parking lot into the woods around the botanical garden but outside the official fence. Check out the library too.
