“extras make this inn special”

Got a good deal on this property from living social. There are some extra costs ($14.00 for parking) but the staff was very friendly and welcoming. The pimento cheese snack delivered to the room was an unexpected treat. Had dinner in the bar and while vegetarian choices were limited, the kitchen was very accomodating. Breakfast was included and was great. It was fun to be able to walk down to Franklin Street. The fitness center was very nice.

Immaculate, impeccable, gracious hospitality, charm, tasteful, elegant, comfortable, nightly turn-down with chocolate squares, comfortable bathrobes, chocolate chip cookies on arrival, doormen, helpful and cheerful staff, sensational location with restaurant row just one block away, in-room safe and mini-fridge, classy, classic, historical, truly a four star or four diamond hotel at the very least.
The breakfast buffet was not extensive, but it was excellent. No omelet station, but the scrambled eggs were delicious. Valet and also an adjacent park yourself lot. Exercise room. Just walking down the halls was an adventure because the walls are full of pictures of University of North Carolina former students and others associated with UNC, along with a brief bio. The hotel is actually a part of UNC and all profits go to the UNC library. Locally, it is known as the living room of the university. The nearby, meaning walkable, restaurants run the gamut from fine dining to beer and pizza joints, something for everyone. The main entrance to the campus of UNC is across the street. The Morehead Planetarium is only a long block away. On Friday evenings in the summer, there is live music on the lawn in front of the hotel. Locals of all ages gather to listen, drink, and even dance.
I didn't see a swimming pool so if you have kids, you may want to check that out.
We were told that if it rained while we were out, we could call and they would send their shuttle bus.
They have afternoon tea. The place appeared to have been renovated recently, or perhaps they have a constant maintenance. We did see a workman painting an area that didn't appear to need any touch up.
This place had the WOW factor. It was also so very photogenic.

Our reason for staying in Chapel Hill was to visit Replacements Ltd, only about 40 miles away on I-85 near Greensboro, NC. About 500,000 sq. ft. in the building. The showroom is about 12,000 sq. ft. and it is a masterpiece. They say they have the largest collection of china in the world. There is even a museum within the showroom with priceless china, silver, crystal, and collectibles from long ago. One display pieces holds 500 plates of different patterns. They claim to have 265,000 discontinued and active patterns. I believe it.

The Carolina Inn, Chapel Hill and Replacements, Ltd, are all Bucket List material.

One negative item about The Carolina Inn, but so minor- The electrical sockets were difficult to plug in.

The renovations of the Carolina Inn make it my new favorite place to stay in CH. It is very well appointed and full of history. Our room was very comfortable. They pay special attention to details. I would have given an excellent review but I kept finding little issues during our stay that must be resolved before I could give it a top rating. Housekeeping missed a few steps in the room and parts of the breakfast buffet need work. Overall we enjoyed our stay and will definitely return.

I stayed here for my daughters orientation and could not have been more pleased. The rooms are spacious and beautiful and the staff are very accommodating. The Inn is also conveniently located on campus to just about everything.

Beautiful room, delicious food, elegant atmosphere. Staff attentive and helpful: we enjoyed touring the Duke Gardens at nearby Duke University, as recommended by the front desk clerk. We also visited the North Carolina Art Museum, about thirty minutes away. I look forward to staying at the Carolina Inn again!

Our hotel stay was very relaxing in the king room. The furnishings, space, and updated bathroom were appreciated in historic lodging. In this full service hotel, the unexpected amenities were also appreciated which included - Wi-Fi, bottled water, refrigerator, and coffee maker. We took pleasure in the numerous UNC alumni photographs throughout the hallways and the mention of Paul Wellstone in our room. In the morning, we took advantage of the breakfast buffet and were not disappointed. In addition, we came back to the hotel on a different night to enjoy Fridays on the Front Porch. We had a great time on the lawn! We will be back - next time we are in town!

I was driving down to Florida from NY and made a few stops along the way. It was a true pleasure having been able to stay at this hotel for one night. The richness and antiquity is breathtaking. The customer service was fantastic. My room was located on the top floor. It was a small room, but very well decorated. The bathroom was exquisite. I had a very comfortable night sleep. Although they have a restaurant on site, there are great placed to eat and drink a few blocks up on the main road. Although the crowd is all basically from the University, the variety of food and drink is great. I would definitely recommend anyone driving by to spend at least a night for the experience.
