This is my second stay at the Ballantyne Resort. On our first stay a few years ago, we booked the Presidential Suite and were treated very well. However, on this last stay we booked a king room with a balcony view of the golf course. The bed is very comfortable (a plus) but there is no complimentary coffee service in the hotel. The only way to get coffee in your room is to order via in-room dining (way overpriced even though it is Illy brand coffee allegedly). I think this is cheesy. If you consider yourself high end, then you must provide coffee and tea service as a compliment to the guest. I would rather pay a few dollars more on my nightly rate in order to guarantee this service.

Another negative is the fitness center. It appears that many locals use these facilities along with personal training staff, etc. This is fine but it limits the availability of elliptical machines and treadmills for guests. We were not able to get a workout unless we chose "odd times" to exercise. The Ballantyne area is nice but it is a bit of a drive away from Uptown, so if the Uptown location is important and you can afford it, try the Ritz-Carlton.

We have stayed at many five star properties (Four Seasons, Ritz, etc) and this hotel is nowhere close. I know it is considered a 4-star property and this may be due to the Spa and Golf facilities which are nice. But as a hotel alone, I would give it 3-stars at best. The staff is friendly but they are missing that "it-factor" that really takes you to the next level. One really positive experience we had was breakfast at the Gallery Restaurant. The chicken-apricot sausage is excellent!

This was a quick getaway with my wife. We were both VERY impressed with this hotel.
Great rooms, great service, great public areas, and a wonderful indoor heated pool.

In our opinion, this hotel is as good as some 5 star resorts.

The restaurant -- We only ate breakfast here. It was very good (we ordered off the menu), but the breakfast buffet was a bit of a joke -- very few choices of mediocre quality.

This was a great hotel to get a goodnight sleep. It is a clean hotel that one would feel safe in. Location is far from Southpark and Uptown - other than that - good. Grade - A

I recently stayed at the Ballantyne last week for 2 nights and enjoyed my stay. The hotel and guest room were very nice. The hotel staff are very professional and courteous; the bartender we were served by in particular was very nice.

The one minor flaw I have was that I was a bit annoyed being awoken by the maid vacuuming the hallway at 10 a.m., which I thought was a bit early.

Also, if you are visiting Charlotte the Ballantyne is about a 20 minute drive from downtown Charlotte but right by the highway.

Stayed here for a couple of nights for a work event. This hotel has all the usual 'Luxury Collection' elements; extremely attentive staff, faux French decor, golf course etc. And that's all great except if you are staying in the 'Lodge'.

The Lodge is seperate wing on the other side of the golf course; approx 10 minutes walk to the main hotel along a main road. They will drop you off if you ask. The decor is trying to emulate a hunting lodge with pool tables, huge stone fireplaces and big oversize lounges. The Lodge has a lovely deck at the front overlooking the golf course and the beautiful trees of the Queens' city. Which would be great except my room was overlooking a parking lot and the office building next door.

Hotels spend a fortune trying to create a 'style' which works only for some of the rooms in this case. The problem isn't in the execution of the place, it's the location. Trying to place a French Chateau which looks across to a hunting lodge in the middle of an office park really doesn't work to make the illusion of Euopean grandeur credible.

The room itself was nice with a large jacuzzi bath and a king size comfortable bed. Overall, a nice hotel with quality finishes and excellent staff.

We always stay at this wonderful hotel when visiting family in Charlotte. I was in the process of making reservations for a holiday weekend and checked for recent reviews of this lovely hotel. I was surprised to read the bride's account of her unfortunate experience of having large diamond earrings stolen from her purse. I am truly sorry this happened to her but I cannot understand why she would leave such special earrings anywhere other than in her ears or in the safe in her room. There is a safe in every room and guests are reminded and encouraged to store all valuables safely.
We wouldn't stay anywhere else in Charlotte. The rooms are large and beautifully decorated, the staff is kind and accommodating, and the food in the Gallery Restaurant is excellent. The bathrooms are large and spectacular, with both soaking tubs and showers and the beds are super comfortable. Staying at the Ballantyne is always a beautiful experience!

We booked this hotel/resort for our wedding back in April 2009. We thought it would be the most beautiful day of our lives. Ballantyne Resort offered us a complementary suite for the night of our wedding. Little did we know accepting this offer was the worst decision we could have made. During our 7 hour wedding ceremony/reception at the hotel, 2 ct. diamond stud earrings were stolen from the bride's purse/jewelry box. They were safely stored in the bride’s purse. After we've discovered the robbery, we’ve found out that there were NUMEROUS entrances into our suite/room by the housecleaning/hotel personnel. In one particular instance, same person entered the room 7 times in ONE hour. We reported this incident to the local police. The hotel had conducted an investigation and reported no wrongdoing on the part of the hotel or the housecleaning/hotel staff even though there was a clear evidence of wrongdoing. The hotel took the word of a housecleaning person who had a strange excuse for entering our room seven times during the time when we were getting married. We were very disappointed at how the hotel handled the case and could have never imagined how something like this could happen at the place like Ballantyne. It unfortunately DID!!! This was supposed to be the MOST beautiful day of our lives and it was stained by this horrible incident. The earrings were the most expensive and the ONLY item that was stolen from our room. The sad part is that they held a very sentimental value. The hotel did not do anything to compensate us for our loss. PLEASE DON'T STAY AT THIS HOTEL OR BETTER YET GET MARIED AND IF YOU DO MAKE SURE ALL YOUR JEWLERLY IS LOCKED AWAY OR SIMPLY DON’T BRING IT WITH YOU. WE WERE CLEARLY TARGETED FOR ROBERRY THAT DAY BECAUSE WE WERE GETTING MARRIED AND THE HOTEL HAS GIVEN ACCESS KEYS TO NUMEROUS HOTEL STAFF THAT COULD ENTER OUR ROOM AS THEY PLAESE. We were NEVER informed of this otherwise we would have made sure anything of value would be put away. Besides is this something bride and groom need to worry about on their WEDDING day? Well we were clearly fooled by the false sense of security at the Ballantyne Resort l and hope this NEVER happens again to anyone.

Dear Mikaela64,
Thank you for your feedback and taking the time to post your comments. I was very much aware of the incident and your concerns during your stay with us. Our security team conducted a thorough investigation and we agree that it is unfortunate that this experience tainted your special day. We take all comments and incidents very seriously. We understand that jewelry is a treasured possession, and that is why for every guest room we offer two opportunities to secure valuable items. Each guest room has its own safe, and the front desk reception also provides additional locked storage units. If you would like to further discuss your experience with a member of the hotel staff, please send an email directly to the General Manager skalczynski@theballantynehotel.com so he may address it with you directly. Again, our apologies for your loss.

Sincerely,
Hotel Management
