“Nice Collection”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 July 2014

Nice collection of African American art. Like the size of the museum. Not too overwhelming in size but had a real diversity of arts.

“Small But Good”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 June 2014

The Gantt Museum is a sliver of a building--long and narrow. So you won' t be in there for hours with dozens of displays you're just trying to get through. You can take your time and really examine the works and take your time in the gift shop and see some nice reproductions. Just like every museum in Charlotte, look for the works by Charlotte native Romare Bearden. Local Charlotte museums all try to have at least one of his works.

“Worth visiting this "Cool Spaces" Center”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 May 2014

Easy to find and located in amazing Center City of Charlotte, a stop at the Gantt Center is worth the nominal admission. $9 is the most expensive adult admission. If you want to make it a cultural weekend, buy the Levine Center for the Arts Access Ticket. A mere 20 dollars will get you in to 3 museums: the Gantt Center, the Mint Museum of Art and the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art. And you'll have 48 hours to do it.

The Gantt is open every day but Monday from 10-5. The Center's physical space is beautiful, wide open and airy with lots of room to roam. In fact, it was featured on "Cool Spaces: The Best In Architecture" on PBS. The collection of art isn't huge, but the Center is still new and growing as I understand it. We went to see "I See You: The Politics of Being" exhibit. It was interesting, but, quite frankly, underwhelming, particularly if you have a keen interest and have studied race, class, and gender. We stumbled on to Question Bridge: Black Males. It's a transmedia conversation with black men from across America and was quite fascinating. We thought it was the find of the day! You can check out their website at http://www.ganttcenter.org/web/ for all the details of current offerings. It is worth at least one visit.

“Great Place”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 March 2014

Once again recommended by a resident from Charlotte and I was not disappointed. One of the staff said its purpose was to open and continue dialogue. The exhibits did that to the full. The Bridge was excellent.

“Beautiful and convenient”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 February 2014

This center was modern, educational and very convenient to our hotel. Nice art in the gift shop. We walked several blocks and enjoyed viewing downtown Charlotte on the way.
