“Decent Mountain Bike Trails”
Reviewed 1 June 2013

I decided to go mountain biking after school one day so I came down to the river walk since they were the closest trails. The trails were not very well marked and I ended up going the wrong way a bunch of times and it was almost impossible to tell which trail was which. The trails themselves were not very well made. They swtiched back on themselves way to much and as a result there weren't really any places to open up and go fast. They didn't allow for any speed to be carried into the hills which made them much harder to climb then they really should have been.

“Pretty decent as rivers go....”
Reviewed 20 March 2013

Where is flows into Lake Wylie is the best part. But up-river there are a few watering holes (no! I mean restaurants/bars!) that are quite nice. Such a shame the fish camp by the bridge over to Belmont on Wilkinson has closed down, it was a wonderful place on a summer evening to catch the setting sun as it slips down behind the Belmont side.
Further up towards Lake Norman there are some hidden idyllic stretches I will let you all discover for yourselves. No tips here, mainly just because I don't really know the names of the places, just pretty spots in the wilderness along the banks of the river.
Rowing, sailing, wakeboarding, fishing, rafting -- the list goes on and the best addition in recent years was of course the Olympic standard Whitewater Center. But that will be the subject of another review.

Just one tip - try the biking trails at Whitewater. They're free and the restaurant from whence you can sometimes enjoy watching the olympic kayakers and canoers coming down class 4 and 5 whitewater while you pick fish bones from your teeth ain't that bad, actually. In fact I have eaten fairly well there, and that too will be subject of yet another review!

OK, anchors away, float away - enjoy the river life you river rats!

“Nice river to kayak”
Reviewed 7 March 2013

It is a nice place to kayak if you do it on a weekend when the dam has a release. Watch for rocks and shoals. Can be treacherous at some places on the river.
