“Decent hotel by the airport”

This was a standard, decent hotel by the Charlotte airport. Good value for money, the rooms were clean, it was comfortable, nothing really special. As we were leaving early morning, the hotel did the job for us, it offers an airport shuttle which is a good thing it is a few minutes drive from the airport.

We chose this hotel because it was one of the only ones in the area charging less than $175/night, which is too high for the area, in my opinion. It was fine for a one night stay to be close to the airport. The room was clean and quiet. The check-in was a little lackluster, as there was no mention of our SPG elite status or upgrade, or anything along those lines. I would be interested to see how the renovations turn out, once they are complete. We were not affected by them directly during our stay. Overall, we had no real complaints, as we were not there for very long at all.

The website certainly presents a newer, fresher looking hotel than this one actually is. The rooms are quite small and dingy, but with updated bedding and furnishings. First impression was not good as we arrived close to midnight to find the desk clerk on a personal phone call. She immediately said she needed to go since a guest just walked in but then proceeded to finish her phone call for 40-70 seconds more. At midnight, this seemed like forever. She went on to tell us when breakfast was served. I asked the fee; she said $13.99! OMG, do they not know their competitor serves a complimentary breakfast for the same and less room rate. Then we get to the room and attempt to connect to the web to find out they want $9.99 for internet service. NO WAY- The final straw was there was not only poor cell coverage, but there was NO cell coverage using an AT&T phone. Doubletree needs to fast forward to offering a hotel experience that gives you free internet connection with great cell coverage and a complimentary breakfast. The morning desk agent was much more professional and helpful with requests, so not all was a loss. But, I will not ever make plans to stay at this location of a Hilton again.

Room Tip: No tips except ask about services before reserving a room. If wireless, cell coverage and breakfast...

I stayed at The DoubleTree Airport hotel for The DNC and was very impressed by the professionalism exhibited throughout the entire hotel. From the quick, friendly service at the front desk to the van ride back to the airport, they run a great hotel.

I had breakfast every morning before going to the convention and the service was fast, and friendly, and the food was very good- not great, but for the price, it can't be beat, Even the chef was visible in the dining room checking on guests and refilling coffee.

It was a great location for anyone doing business downtown, as the commute was maybe 10 minutes. All the van drivers were personable and had answers to the many questions asked of them on the ride down. The van was even new so I didn't bounce all over the seat as usually happens..

The hotel was older, but they were in the middle of renovating the GM told us. She was out in the lobby constantly, answering questions, and handing out cookies, and always had a smile on her face every time I saw her. I don't know how she did it, but it came across as genuine and caring- 2 traits any road warrior immediately recognizes.

Rooms were average but beds were perfect, and I'll stay here again as my 1st choice when in Charlotte. Thanks staff for making an exhausting and rough week great!.

Stayed at the hotel for an overnight layover. There are only three floors and the third floor is a smoking floor (despite the fact that they are listed as a non-smoking property - even on my bill sleeve!). As an asthmatic (and Hilton diamond), I specifically ask for a non-smoking room. Putting me on a smoking floor was a disaster. The only room they could move me too that had not been smoked in was a double so it was either squeeze into a double bed or not breathe.

Rooms are terribly dark and the restaurant seemed very expensive. Not very crowded and even the bar food was high. Did not try anything because of the price. May have been very good, but was not up to spending over 30.00 on a meal for two for just a layover.

If you like to smell cigarette smoke and musty rooms, I will recommend this place - otherwise stay away!

Room Tip: Avoid the third floor if you want to breathe.

If you hope to use your cell phone, don't stay here. The rest of the hotel is fine - typical Doubletree and perfectly clean and serviceable. But if you are on AT&T or TMobile, you can't make a phone call at the hotel. And so I will never stay here again. The front desk staff - who clearly hear this complaint daily - respond with grace. But hotel management needs to deal with this issue with some sense of urgency.

Being in the service industry, I am more atune to good/poor customer service. This hotel is the tops. Both Sharon and Teresa, at the front desk, gave me super service and made me feel extra special. The restaurant has very good food and the service was excellent. Luis, the evening server, knew when to appear and was on top of everything without "hoovering". Pete, in the morning, was equally as good and went that extra mile. You can tell that this Hilton property has a good management team that knows how to train their staff.
