“Beyond Exceptional”
Reviewed 4 April 2014

Too bad excellent is the highest rating that can be assigned for a Trip Advisor attraction/shopping because this arts cooperative is the most exceptional one we’ve ever visited.

The artwork here is breathtaking. You can spend a few dollars for quality trinkets or thousands of dollars for stunning pieces of art. The staff was friendly and helpful but never hovered. Be prepared to spend a couple hours browsing and selecting your treasures.

Since we were fairly certain the TSA would frown upon us trying to carry on a tomahawk and a ceremonial staff topped with antlers, our only option was to have the items shipped back home. A very bad experience some years ago involving a spear we had shipped from Taos, concerned us about shipping these items, but the fact is that there was no option. Staff assured us they took great care in packaging. Behold, the items arrived with nary a single point of the antlers piercing the box. Everything arrived in perfect condition.

This is a MUST STOP if you are anywhere within a 100 mile radius. The drive, however you approach, is beautiful.

“Very well done native American art”
Reviewed 16 March 2014 via mobile

Most of the things I loved were pricey but they were genuine and handmade so I don't blame them. I just wish I could afford those earrings I wanted :-( so sad but very nice to at least walk through.

“Respite from the tourist traps”
Reviewed 11 June 2013 via mobile

Cherokee NC can be pretty depressing if all you visit are the roadside tourist shops selling mostly the same imported products with only the slightest connection to the place and it's history. We had nerver heard of the Qualla Arts and Crafts Mutual and we amazed and delighted to be able to see fine works by skilled local crafts people. The woodcarvings, baskets, pottery, and dolls ranged from very traditional to very modern. We were delighted to find pieces from $30.00 to $5,000.00. There was one room devoted to the history of the Crafts Mutual and the techniques used to produce the items. When we had mad our choice, the clerks gave us biographical information on our. Chosen artist and boxed the pottery for the trip home.
