“Awesome location, outdated hotel”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 August 2014

This is a tough one to write. My husband and I love Cherokee and this hotel has an amazing location right on the Oconaluftee River. Make sure if you stay you ask for a room on the back overlooking the river. We can sit on the deck for hours enjoying the view, the activities in the river, and the other guests. Staff was pleasant. Downside is hotel is extremely dated, likes 70s tile and carpet. Could stand to be a bit cleaner and really needs fresh carpet and wall covering (paint or wallpaper). Sheet and towels are clean but a bit thread barren and some stains. To give a comparison, we could have stayed at a Comfort Inn for the same rate but a much nicer room. What the Comfort Inn lacked was that amazing view of the river. So, choose your priorities before you book. And be warned, Wi Fi SUCKS!

I have been staying at this motel for over 15 years after several manager changes the quality has went down drastically we had to check out early because of a foul smell in the room which my wife found to be coming from in front of the night stand which was situated between the two beds I killed live spiders hanging in the room in the corners cable was extremely fuzzy on most channels we stayed in room 110 a balcony room on the first floor the least of our problems was the walls peeling away from themselves in several spots along the roomafter 15 years of faithful loyalty we need a divorce. Comfort Suites just down the road same price beautiful inside and out stay there not at Drama Inn

My family decided to take a trip out of the blue to Cherokee, NC. We had no reservations since it was a spur of the moment trip, so everything in town was booked. We found Drama Inn had vacancies. As soon as I walked into the room after we paid I realized why they had vacancies. The walls were filthy, they looked like a restroom at a rundown gas station. Greasy hand prints and smears all over the room. Looked like it had never been cleaned in the lifetime of the room. It wreaked of stagnation and body odor. I sat down on the bed to use the phone and it had thick brown stuff caked on it. I couldn't tell if it was brownie or feces. Disgusting. That wasn't the worst. I have 3 young children it was late so it was time to brush their teeth. We turned the sink on and start brushing and suddenly raw sewage started coming up through the drain. It was horrible. We called the guy in the front office and he said yeah the place was having sewage problems for a while and that they were going to have to get someone to work on it. He said he could come and plunge my sink. I said just forget it. It was nasty enough, I didn't feel it was worth him bringing a nasty used plunger to my room, plunge the sink that was 4 feet from our bed and sling sewage all over everything. The bathroom floor had muddy boot prints on the floor. The room was awful. The next morning during checkout we told the manager about all the issues and he was dismissive with just an "I'm sorry." We hinted for a partial refund it was ignored. There was no attempt from him at all about saving the reputation of the establishment. It was the first time I ever regretted being polite. Later after we left when we were a couple hours away we noticed we left our iPad and iPhone chargers in our room. We called and asked the manager if they had found them. He said yes. I was at least happy about that. He said he would mail them to us. That was early June now it's mid August. No chargers. We have called them back twice verifying that he mailed them and he claimed Cherokee had the worst mail ever. That it took six weeks for him to mail someone something local and them get it. I have a feeling I will never see my chargers again.

Just stayed up in Cherokee for the Trout Derby - Location of the motel was excellent, manager and workers were excellent, nice sitting area in front of the lower floor rooms - but all the rooms in our group were in need of repairs - shower curtains had mold on the bottoms, some showers sprayed water all over the bathroom, some toilets were loose, had to hold the handle down to get a good flush on some, light/exhaust fan combos need to be replaced. The sink areas could use an upgrade as well. Motel just needs to have a routine maintenance plan established. At $240+ for 2 nights including tax it was not a great value.

The OWNER of the motel could probably spend a few hundred dollars in each room (mostly the bathrooms) and have a nice motel.

My daughter & husband stayed here. Checked in was pleasant . got to the room the air hadn't been turned on it was so hot in there & it took forever cause the unit didn't blow very good. Room was OK clean. Mattresses are very old and staoned basically worn out ! The hotel is in a prime location but really needs a lot of upgrades 109$ a night isn't that cheap for what you get. Sink a little $ in this place people.

We went to North Carolina to see my girlfriend's brother. We wanted to see Cherokee, NC. We didn't reserve a room for our stay. We also had our 2 Beagles with us. We checked out a few pet friendly hotels/motels. It was pricey for what we wanted and a little outdated. The staff was very pleasant, they did like our Beagles. The room was clean. When we return to Cherokee, this is where we will stay

we stayed here on a motorcycle trip thru Tennessee. the motel is an older motel, but it is clean and neat. great view. owner/manager very friendly and helpful. let us (after check out) drop the tag a long trailer we were hauling in his parking lot while we rode the tail of the dragon. a little pricey, but being in close proximity to the casino and cherokee itself makes sense. biker friendly...will stay again...
