After looking at many options, we chose Comfort Inn On The River. We're so glad that we did. The staff was so nice and helpful. The room was awesome. We had a private balcony overlooking the river, it was so peaceful and beautiful. We can't wait to come back and enjoy this Cherokee treasure. I would highly recommend it to everyone.

Room Tip: A room with a view of the river.

After staying at the Comfort Inn on the river, I need to go back and give some better ratings to other places I have stayed!

There are positives. The river is beautiful and adds a huge amount to the quality of the hotel. The lightning bugs out the back at night are spectacular. The Cherokee shuttle stops at the hotel and, for $1, will carry you anywhere in Cherokee. It is quieter at night than places closer to the casino. The AC/heat runs steadily and reasonably quietly, making it easier to sleep with it on. The staff is very friendly and work hard to help when asked. Rooms were available at a reasonable price (which should have been a warning).

The room is usable. The bed is okay and sheets and towels were clean. It is quite dark inside, even with the curtains open and the 3 lights on. There is somewhat of a dank odor also, as if the rooms had been smoking rooms at one time and although cleaning had been done, the carpets and curtains had not been replaced. Most, or maybe all, the rooms are now non-smoking.

The WiFi is almost useless. We found restaurants and made use of WiFi there. I would recommend to the management to either just drop the WiFi OR upgrade your equipment and certainly your internet connection!

I turned on the TV twice. There are about 40 channels but half of them are static-filled. The second time I turned on the TV, it insisted on taking 20 minutes searching for channels. The front desk explained that the TV's do that a lot and they have no idea what to do about it. Fortunately, in Cherokee, there are lots of reasons to get outside and forget about the TV. Again, the hotel management should forget about the TV or improve the connections.

Finally, the breakfast is as basic and tasteless as the worst hotel breakfasts I have encountered. There are good breakfast places in Cherokee but the hotel isn't one of them. You can make a waffle. You can have cereal or heated frozen scrambled eggs. The OJ was watered down. There was NO bread for toast and the English muffin that I tried was old and hard. Once again, management should either forget the breakfast or start spending just a tiny bit more to provide a much better restaurant (even other Comfort Inns provide much better breakfasts than this one.)

There are other hotels in Cherokee that will have last-minute rooms available at a BETTER rate and with a better experience. There are A LOT of hotels in Cherokee that have better rooms and better rates, if you make your plans early.
And to the management, your hotel has location which cannot be beaten. Take advantage and make some improvements!

Seeing previous reviews and pictures of the hotel, my partner and I booked a room for 3 nights. When we got there, we decided to upgrade our room on a whim  and it was worth it!  The room with jacuzzi tub was so roomy, clean, comfortable and bright. The back balcony had a beautiful view of the river and mountains. We had the pleasure of sitting out on a warm night and watching the fireflies light up the trees like Christmas lights. Most importantly, the folks at the front desk were very friendly and helpful with directions and information to different attractions in the area. The complimentary breakfast hours were generous with 7 to 10am timeframes for us late risers. An absolutely great hotel!

While the building is old had some wear&tear to it, it's a really nice and quite hotel. I rooms are set up nice, beds and pillows are comfy. The only thing I would complain about is there's no snack machine..just a soda and ice machine. People get hungry for snacks ya know?

We stay at this location when we go to Cherokee and love the location, just outside of the village. It's quiet, rooms overlook the river and very comfortable. The room is spacious and always ready when we get there. With the delicious free breakfast, you won't leave hungry. The staff is friendly and helpful and have upgraded our rooms numerous times. The price is very reasonable with ammenities like a higher priced one. I highly recommend this hotel anytime you are in the area.

Room Tip: I recommend the river view rooms, so peaceful to sit on the balcony in the evening.

We didn't have any problems at this hotel; it was a nice budget option staying outside of Smokey Mountains National Park on the North Carolina side. I wouldn't have any problems staying again for a night in the area.

We had a king suite - it had a small living area and balcony off the rear. The bedding and linens were all clean. The shower was nice - although with no fan. Our one "issue" with the room was that there was no refrigerator; when we asked, the hotel clerk had said that they only have them in the jacuzzi rooms. It was odd for there was a perfect space for one, they just didn't have one. Nevertheless, the ice machine and our cooler worked just fine.

It was fairly warm out, but the pool was not yet open at the end of April. In driving through town, we saw people cooling off in the river, so we are not sure why the pool wasn't open yet.

The breakfast was standard choice-hotel style with a couple of hot items. We enjoyed having something to start off the day with.

I will mention that the night we stayed, it wasn't anywhere near full. It was quiet, and very dark once you pulled the shade over the door. We both slept well; the bed was comfortable. We are budget travelers and this fit our price range well.
