“Cabin on the river was great”

We stayed at the Pioneer Motel and Cabins on a recent trip to Cherokee with the family. Reserved the 2 bedroom cabin sight unseen--a very pleasant surprise when we arrived. Cabin was clean, very nicely furnished, big covered porch, fireplace, and best of all right on the river. We had a very enjoyable 2 days and will definitely return again. We loved it. Very convenient to everything in Cherokee.

Where do I start? This room is first and foremost ugly. If that were the only problem I wouldn't have a problem. I will start by saying I am a law enforcement officer. This room smelled strongly of Newport cigarettes and mold. There was enough "residue" to indicate to me that there had been drugs used in the room. There were a lot of bugs crawling around in the room. There was a sign in the bathroom stating that if there isn't any hot water "to leave the water running a few minutes" in order to get hot water. I opened the dresser drawer just in case the previous"customer" didn't leave his stash or weapon (sort of joking). Instead I found opened boxes of Lemon cake from a grocery store, boxes of crackers and no lie,.....a can of "fish steaks",....whatever the heck that is! The tub was stained and dirty and there was a 1/4 roll of toilet paper sitting on top of the toilet (way to splurge to the owners). This place was generally scary. I have stayed in everything from a tent to the Ritz Carlton. I NEVER thought I would rather stay in the tent. The ONLY 2 things I could say positive is 1: the tv had cable and 2: we didn't get robbed.

I reserved a room at this motel but I will never go back. This is a small motel and the owner lives in a home on the property. The air conditioner was a wall unit and both of the control knobs were broken
so we had no control over the temperature in our room. The faucets were put in backwards so that the hot water was on the right and the cold on the left plus they were having a problem with the time it took for the hot water to reach the room. One of the towel racks was broken and when we arrived, there was no toilet tissue. The keys to our room were left in an envelope taped to the office door because we
were arriving late and the only way to contact an office staff person
was to dial a phone that was right outside the door. The office staff
often left during the day too, so you never knew if a staff person would be available to assist you.

The worst part of the trip was when the owner came out on the deck of her house and screamed at us. When I called to make our reservation the office staff told us one thing and then when we arrived the situation we encountered was just the opposite and caused
the owner to be rude and overly irrate. This situation did not have to be handled in the way the owner chose to handle it. If this person
had been nice and polite there would not have been a problem but the owner was very confrontational.

My husband observed a family swimming in the pool one night and they were having fun but not being loud or doing anything wrong. Without any notice or prior warning the lights were suddenly turned off in the pool area and in the pool itself. This was rude and could have been dangerous with small children actually in the water. There were no signs posted as to the pool hours so this situation was obviously controlled by the management to make these people leave the pool. This was a very unpleasant experience and to think that we paid plenty of money to be treated like this and to have all the negatives we encountered. There are lots of nice hotels in this town so do yourself a favor and don't stay at this one!

When we went to the Cherokee Bike Rally we stayed at the Pioneer Motel. It was so clean and the people that run it are so nice.
