This motel is by far the most reasonable deal on the island. We arrived with no reservations in high season and we were able to secure a room for $80. The average price of other hotels were $120 and up. It was right across the street from the ocean. It is an older motel, which is discernable from the layout and furnishings in the room. The room did not have a phone. The room was clean and there was a good working a/c and cable television. It was also an added plus to be able to park your car right outside your room for convenience and security. The front desk clerk, Sissie was very warm and helpful. We would recommend making a reservation, since rooms fill up quickly. It will definitely provide a comfortable place to sleep; however, do not stay here if you are looking for posh accomodations.

The Tar Heel Hotel is truely, a Great place. It is very quaint and quiet. Its room's are generous in space, and it's resturant is very good. Though this motel dosen't have a pool, it does have a small exercise room. Overall, I found this hotel to be of the best standards, and it adds new meaning to the term "southern charm."
