“Vacation of Disrepair”

The house is amazing with all the unique artwork, BUT the condition of the furnishings and amenities are horrible. If the house had been better maintained, I would give it a higher rating.

First, we arrive at the house all excited to start our vacation, however things turned sour upon entering the home. As we walked into the living room we noticed the couches were all broken, legs splayed out and the sitting on the floor. The floors, kitchen appliances and dining tables were still dirty and sticky. The hot tub cover was broken into a dozen pieces and floating in the tub. The deck furniture broken and unusable. The screen door to the screen porch was torn and broken. The pool deck was covered in leaves and pebbles. And the worst surprise of all, the included high chair was on the screen porch rusted and covered in mildew. There was no way our child would eat on that disgusting chair.

The vacation company did send us a rental high chair as a replacement, but only offered were are sorry and we tried to fix the other stuff. They delivered a well used hot tub cover a few days later, which we had to carry ourselves up 3 flights of stairs. A furniture repair guy showed up unannounced on 5th day.

On that 5th day, we arrived home after lunch to find our front door wide open and the furniture repair guy standing in our driveway. My wife jumps out the car and is informed that he had lost our dog. He had left the door open and our dog ran off. His partner chased the dog, which only made the dog run harder. Our dog ran across Rt 12 almost hit by cars. Lucky two nice ladies on their vacation, who almost hit our dog crossing Rt 12, followed him down to the 4x4 entrance and were able to catch him.

My wife in tears and physically upset at the whole experience called the rental company to complain that a repairman showed up and lost our dog. All she got was; "we are sorry, we try to call ahead of time." We received no calls about any repair work. The company offered nothing to compensate us for all of the trouble and inconvenience to our vacation except we are sorry.

Recommend everyone to stay away from Elan Vacations and the poorly maintained The Sandpiper.

“Loved the Kid-Friendly House!”
Reviewed 10 June 2014 for a stay in June 2014

Our family really loved the Sandpiper House! The cool unique decorations were such a surprising treat! The little kids liked the pebble digging area in the back, the tic-tac-toe game by the pool, the cool kids bedroom and bathroom, the kids books, and the trunk full of puzzles and games! We liked that the pool was nearly always in the sun, yet there was constant shade from the overhanging trees. The trees all around provided complete pricacy as well. It was very close to the beach - a few steps to the access boardwark. I also liked having the screened -in porch - we enjoyed having breakfasts there.
